when you hold the battery with the arrow pointing up, the one on the left (Slightly deeper groove) and the 2nd from the right are the one the pins must make contact with - hope that helps

Exactly, 1 & 5 from the left (of the photo), or 2 & 6 from the right.

The 1-5/2-6 depending on how you look at it
work very nicely on the Leica batteries. I also have charged my GRD/GX200 batteries and a couple of others without any difficulty.
I would add the Annsmann is slightly faster then both OEM chargers I mentioned above. Thanks to Ken this is a good find for Leica owners and anyone else who may need a simply battery charger solution - it is far less bulky than the Leica charger which is an additional benefit.
Best Regards. Terry.

Mine arrived yesterday also, and it works well. It's a little fidgety aligning the contact pins so they go into the proper slots. The directions say to plug the charger in first, but I think it better to get the battery hooked up first and then plug in into power. It looks like it will work better for batteries like the M8's, with slots, as opposed to ones with flat contacts (like the DLux3 and others) because the charger's contacts are flat blades. It would also have been nice if there was the capacity to charge 4 AAs instead of just two. I will continue to take the M8 charger along, but as a backup charger for several items I might travel with, this Ansmann is great!

There is a report about a battery running hot on the Ansmann Vario Charger on LUF now. That is not surprising. As opposed to the Leica charger, it has no temperature sensor, so it is not able to modulate the charge according to a battery overheating.

I charged both of my batteries last night and all went well. I'm also a little concerned that it doesn't have a temp sensor, since one was specified for the Leica charger, so as I said, this one is strictly a backup for me.
BTW do you know if the Delkin charger (which is supposed to be getting an M8 plate soon) will have the temp sensor?

Well...
seeing as how Ansmann makes both chargers, perhaps they can eventually release a vario with a temp sensor..
