Agree. What originally got me started with digital was going to a Kelby workshop and seeing what could be pulled out of the shadows with a decent raw file. I was amazed.
I'm into my third year with the M8 and it's still frustrating. The high ISO settings aren't as good as my Canon and the IR filter issue is frustrating since I still shoot about four rolls of black and white film a week. The idea was to have a digital camera that could use the Leica glass. The M8 can, but I have to change filters when I swap lenses between film Ms and the M8 and that's not always possible when I have to work quickly.
I hated my M8 for over a year. It was the worst camera ever. Loud, the focus was off, the grip was slippery. Then I sent it in for the ugrade. Got the quiet shutter and new framelines. And they fixed the focus. Then I replaced the covering with griptac. I love the camera now. And it's always with me. Sadly replacing my M7 as my "go to" everyday camera.
