As I am interested in the M8, I still have some questions about it.
What is the actual status of the problems around the M8?
What has been done by Leica Solms to solve the debacle?
Is there any future for the M8?
I know, asking questions is easier than answering them, but one can try...

Thanks,

As Jaap has noted, there are more threads around on this topic than there are fleas on ferral pigs. While its outside this forum, I think Guy Mancuso's IR cut filter thread on the Leica User Forum gives a lot of useful information on practical work-arounds for the problem and also its background and history.

...Mike

[Full disclosure: I have no M8 and never had any intention of buying one. I'm interested, though.]

If there ever is an M9, I hope that Leica is paying attention and "remembers" what it is that drew people to the M series in the first place.

it's realy terrible,
this summer I've bought a nearly new MP with some lenses
and thought this will be one of the last investments.
But last week there was a promotion tour of Leica at my local dealer,
and now it's over.
Be shure in some month I have a M8.

I've took the demo out for about a hour,
hey it's realy great stuff.
Works fine, lays perfect in your hand and fits to all the famous m-lenses.

Buy it if you can,
I'm shure Leica will solve all the realistic probs.

regards

Welcome to the ward where ALL the patient records are stamped large with one word: "INCURABLE."

Since no one actually answered your question...
For anyone who has the an M8 from the first shipment, Leica is suggesting the use of an IR cut filter to eliminate the magenta cast that appears in some colour photos.
Leica has held back the next shipment of M8s and is planning to make an announcement this week regarding a permanent solution.
Read here: http://luminous-landscape.com/whatsnew/
and here: http://www.imx.nl/photosite/comments/c029.html
for some discussions and workarounds of the issue.

>M9 will be an M7 with the M8 metal shutter that goes to 1/4000s.

Wasn't that a pig that just flew over...?

Wait... the geniuses at Leica might just do it...

If I spellcheck the word 'Leica' on my Mac, it suggests the words 'leach' and 'leech'.
