The best camera is one that still works!
I need to confirm my suspicions here and my gut feeling is that if Cosina hadn't made the 35mm f1.2 Nokton the M8 wouldn't be quite the camera it is in poor light ... well definitely not for 'moi' at least!
It's about the only lens I use on mine period but if someone died and left me a sh*tload of cash I would definitely have the 24mm f1.4 Summilux in my armoury. (thanks for the excellent review Roger)
I'm only offering two options here ... '35mm f1.2 Nokton' or 'other!'
Of course ... if the rumoured M9 is full frame and works better at high ISO's then the results of this poll don't matter a jot!

Depends on what the shooting requires. That's why I have lots of lenses for lots of aesthetic freedom.

I don't have the 1.2/35 .....yet
I have to admit I usually carry my rd1 for low light with a cv1.4/40.
On the M8 The lens has been the slowish Dual hex 21/35.
Perfect combo of Hex character and 28/50mm equivelent fov.
Shame that they don't come on auction often.
Mine was$750 without the finder.
Have seen them finish for 800-1500 on eBay. Ignore the bloted BIN listings for $2500+

My vote goes to the 50/1.5 Zeiss C Sonnar. The contrast and colour rendition mate with the M8 sensor like nothing else. The combo could well be my favorite colour "film".

I voted for the Nokton, due to it being my favorite lens to use on my M8. It fits how and what I shoot very well. If I'm going out to shoot that lens in on the M8, no questions asked.

Not quite a poll IMHO, but an example of how well Voigtlander has done with the world's fastest 35mm lens.
For me the 28 Summicron is the best lens, although the 24 Summilux is peeping over it's shoulder as the potentially best overall lens on the M8.

It suprises me sometimes that Cosina, out of the blue, came out with a 35mm that set the speed standard and delivered focally as well. Granted, it is a little large but who else has come near it so far? Zeiss don't have anything that fast in 50mm let alone 35mm and Leica don't seem interested in producing anything faster than their Summilux ... though I guess that could change!
Because of the type of shooting I do if I didn't have this lens my M8 wouldn't really be much use to me to be honest ... I owned it well before I got my M8 and not with the intention of getting the Leica but they soon became inseparable companions!

would love to see Cosina build a 35mm f/1 or f/1.1. Would be ideal on a M9, should it have full frame. Or a 28mm f/1.4 or f/1.2 would be nice too.
So why would I prefer Cosina to make them? Because after seeing what Leica charges for unique high speed lenses, aka Noct 0.95 and 21/24 Lux, I'm happy with a Cosina sticking it's head outta my M8's butt....so to speak

My comments are as follows on this:
1.) My 28mm Summicron ASPH is glued to the M8. It is really my favorite combo for taking intimate pictures or snap shots at parties etc.
2.) I find that close up my M8 of all my Ms gives me the best shots of this nature. This is probably because the M8 has a different "0 point" for the focus point to all other M's including the M8.2, which I think are something like 3m instead of 1 or something for the M8.
3.) Regarding the 28mm Summicron ASPH, on the aesthetic side, it's too bad Leica decided to make the lens of anodized aluminum instead of brass. I prefer Leica's silver lenses with brass because the feel is better and the color of the silver is better.
4.) For me now, there is no real difference in feel, build quality and appearance to Zeiss, so the most recent lens I bought was the Zeiss 21mm 2.8.
)) This lens also rocks. So let me see what the future brings.

A 35 f1 would be nice, but I would LOVE a fast 28. 1.4 would be great. But until then I'm sticking with the 35 Nokton.

So Cosina/Voigtlander 35/1.2 is not fast enough, thats why you want 35/1 or 1.1? I have CV 35/1.2 and it so good I dont wish for one faster, thats why I wonder why you do?

The 24mm Elmarit. I have owned the Nokton 1.2 but too heavy for a day street shooting with camera at the wrist. The 35mm Lux Asph is a better lens in terms of IQ than the Nokton but 35mm FOV is a bit too tight for one lens only.
Though 24mm is a bit too wide, the image quality that come out of the Elmarit is unmatched. Resolution is simply spectacular, colors warm and I even like to use it for portrait for the way it draws skin.

Well, for the same reason you bought a 50/1.2 when others wondered the same about you when they beleived a 50/1.4 was enough

My favourite M8-lens is the WATE. It is on 60% of the time. The M8/WATE combination turns out to be one of the best digital wide angle combos on the market, in my opinion.

Pretty strange poll. Your day job isn't political polling by any chance?
I'd vote for the normal Tri-Elmar 28-35-50...if it were on your menu...

I shoot it with this lens:
Konica L-Hexanon 35mm f2.0. This is the exact copy of the lens on the Hexar AF.
Fitted one of those bloody IR-cut filters on it, and then a 46->52mm step up ring as a hood.
Sweet combo!

I'd have to agree: I don't use the M8, but if I did, I believe my 28mm Summicron would see a lot of use, and so would my 24mm Elmarit.

I have to go with the 28 Summicron.
I've been tempted to get a 35 nokton - and might someday. But I've sort of promised myself that I'm through acquiring lenses for a while.

I use Summilux ASPH when I need speed and Summarit 35mm when I don't. Never tried Nokton on M8, but I liked it very much on film bodies (and didn't have either of the Leica lenses back then)...
