Yes, but the noise is of the so-what variety. I.e. it would not be a problem in print.

Like many other cameras - as I have shown, the RD-1 would do fine to produce a dark shot like this as well.
 
From the same ISO1250 file. Manipulating size is indeed a way of hiding noice. Here of a crop that would equal a print of about 45 x 68 cm.

I like the R-D1 shot much better.

I agree. There is nothing wrong with the RD1 as a picture taking machine.
