M8-modified 35mm Nokton - how to tell?

I'm considering buying an M8 and I already own two 35mm Noktons. I'll be selling one to part-fund the purchase, how do I know whether either lens has been M8-modified? Clearly if only one has been modified I'll sell the unmodified one...

If it has the coding dots on the mount it is modified, if not, it has not been modified.

I think he is referring to the rear flange, which sometimes binds on an M8. I am not sure that this is a factory modification, but if it is, then the one with the higher serial number would likely be the modified one, if either is. The lens sometimes won't focus to infinity without shaving a tiny bit off the rear flange, but it can be mounted if focus is set a little closer, I have read. It's not a difficult modification for those who have the right tools and skill.

If the rear guard over the element is a little tall it's not modified. I have an unmodified nokton I have to take in. And I just bought the thing like 3 months ago. and now have to spend an extra $100 to use it. Grrr.

the 35/1.2 M8 modification is something new within the last several months. If your 35/1.2 was not sold to you as a M8 modified lens, it probably isn't. unmodified lenses MAY have binding on the M8's focusing mechanism near infinity.

the modification is replacement of the rear element lens shroud
with another lens shroud which is stepped instead of straight
this is NOT something you can do yourself.
the lens has to be taken apart and then rechecked for calibration

I am offering the 35/1.2 M8 modification free (except for return shipping) if the lens owner bought it from me, or free if they buy another new CV lens when the 35/1.2 is modified.

the factory is now shipping modified 35/1.2's. However we are not selling the part, so beware of grey market dealers claiming they can get their lenses modified.

By element shroud do you mean the two "ears" that stand proud of the rear element? (see below). Is the modification a Cameraquest exclusive or will other regional distributors (I'm in the UK) be able to carry it out as well?

what you are calling "ears" is the part which is replaced.

I believe all Voigtlander Distributors are able to make the modification. In the UK, contact Robert White.
