M8 + new CV 25mm

My new M-mount CV 25mm (rangefinder coupled - yay) arrived yesterday. I have to say - it really looks the part on the M8. Hopefully I'll get out shooting with it tonight, but either way it's definitely coming with me to New York this weekend where it will get a thorough workout!

Anyone tried this combo yet? Any impressions?

I have a feeling this will become my new 'standard' on the M8, replacing the CV 28 f3.5.

It comes with one of the Zeiss-style 'pinch' lens caps. I thought I would always prefer the metal/velvet approach, but this plastic one is nice and compact.

The lens brings up the correct 24mm-equivalent frame in the M8. I lost my 21mm lens recently, which I was using with a 28mm finder, but I bought the 25mm as a replacement due to being able to use the built-in finder.

Is the lens worth the price? Well...it costs less than a Zeiss or Leica finder. It's built well. Optical performance and signature is yet to be determined, but I have high hopes.

Thanks Joe. Yes, the zm 35 is a nice lens. I had considered getting the zm 25, but it brings up the wrong framelines on the M8 and I didn't want to fuss with changing the mount.

Scho,I really like the IR stuff. That light blue sky is eery! I just got have to get an IR filter (not a cut filter) and use the IR sensitivity of the M8. Those are superb!

Thanks Steve and Dingo. The light blue sky in the IR image lends a touch of reality to the scene. I get the blue by switching the red and blue channels and tweaking color balance.

I have this lens and have found that the screw in small shade from the Leica
50/2.8 Elmar fits nicely to give a small ,easily transportable shaded lens.

I just used a Sharpie to code the 25P. It is already an M mount so doesn't use an adapter. I don't know if John Milich can mill the CV M mount for coding but that would provide a more durable method of coding. Too bad CV didn't keep the 25P as a screw mount which would have made it easy to use John's milled LTM adapter.

You must have great small motor control....... 😀 you're the first person in the last month that has said that the pinch caps are nice.

They are an exercise in frustration for myself......

I believe you folks may be surprised by how fast I got mine. After viewing some online pics from the new CV25P including Carl's, I bought mine. It is now on my M8. First round of pics shows a very pleasant moderate wide angle view from this M8/25mm combo eff 32-33mm, long missed. Color and contrast is also Leitz-like IMHO.

On M8, 28 Cron seems a bit tight for a general purpose WA. The strange thing is 21 seems a bit wider than 28 in 35mm format. Really hope Leica to bring out a new compact 24mm. Current one though stella, is a bit bulk. After they made the super compact 28/2.8 asph, it should not to difficult to do it again on 24mm.

I have had great sucess with the CV 25mm p but cannot get it to code! Still, I have no significant vignetting issues.
