My, there is a lot of civic minded people on this forum. I think this is a great place!
I tried emailing the buyer through eBay but they blocked a non-sale related mail. Oh, well. I'm glad that you managed to find the buyer, plummerl. The universe can be a kind place sometimes.
I'm amazed that you were able to find the exact photo! What a bungle that seller made! They could have made such a better job with their scam attempt...

I may not talk much in this form but this really made me mad. I did get through
to the buyer with ebay email and told him about the image I found on
Photo.net. Didn't hear back.
This stuff cost us big money and hate to see a fellow photographer get taken. I think
from now on I'll stick to a dealer.

I would think that anyone who would be willing to spend that kind of money would first know what an M8 looks like. All the information is available at his finger tip, just Google.

This is indeed troubling. The "dope" is now an accomplished scam artist. I cannot believe eBay didn't look into this. Granted, you can't expect them to know everything, but they should take a hard look at high-priced items.

On the other hand, one might be lucky. This weekend there was an auction of a like new Summilux 75 starting at 1650 euro from someone with 0 feedback. This guy lives in Amsterdam. I asked if I could pick up this lens. and the reply in ducth was ok. (My friend) Google suggested me he was a well known dutch filmer (documentaries of WOII) and after a short phone conversation we traded item vs lens.
I believe that a seller with more feedback would have selled for more...

I don't know if this is a scam or not, but it could be possible that this is just a lazy seller who happens to be a first timer. If you do a google image search for "Leica M8" this fake picture comes up on the first page. Jus' sayin'.

The seller accepts CC. That is unusual for a scammer isn't it?
