Broadly, there can be money for all sorts of luxuries as long as you don't fritter your money away.
Absolutely.

Over here we are shocked at how the financial crisis is being solved by the US administration; by sending a gigantic bill - noboby know how large yet, to the US tax payers - who have a heavy burden already. Just to save the share holders of banks & financial institutions with a ratio between debt and equity of up to 34:1!
There goes the future of Leica...

Alitalia (the Italian airline) looks likely to go bankrupt soon.
This afternoon they cancelled 20-30 flights; and rumor has it the reason is they can't afford the fuel. They said as much a couple of days ago, and also said they are losing €2,000,000 every day.
Years ago the Italian government would have given them extra funding, but now that is very strictly forbidden by the EU.
Alitalia looks to have only a few more days left.

You really don't believe those results are accurate, do you?Why are people getting so worked up about this? If you think it is too personal a question, don't answer.
I actually find the results to the poll so far quite interesting.

Dear Mike,The only fair way to treat "tax issues" is to tax everyone an identical percentage of his/her income, if you must have an income tax.
An interesting way of defining 'fair'.
Let's set an arbitrary (and very low) poverty line: $5,000, say. And an arbitrary (and again low) income tax level: 10%, say.
Someone with an income of $5,000 is therefore taxed $500 and is left with $4500. They are therefore below the poverty line, i.e. can't afford to eat, buy shoes for their children, etc.
Someone with $100,000 is taxed $10,000 and is left with $90,000. They are still $80,000 above the poverty line.
Do you sincerely believe this is a fair taxation system?
Cheers,
R.

How about a Wiki-record that anyone can amend?
_____________ is brain dead.
_____________ was a communist party member when he was 20.
_____________ votes Republican.
I don't see why ANY personal information needs to go on the internet, unless you want it to.

Even better, devise a tax system that doesn't require an intrusive government agency storing petabytes of private information about its citizens.
Many of the super rich would like your suggestion. Indeed, Forbes has been speaking for a 'flat' tax. Relative to their purchasing power the poor man will pay far more than the rich. Even more so than today. That will be unfair, that's my opinion. Would it be fair if the only the taxi drivers of NY had to pick up the bill of hair raising speculation gone wrong by Wall Street? Indeed, the tax profile is one of the most important issues to be decided by a democracy. 'Who's gonna pay', an important question.

1)
The wellfare of Leica is very much linked to the purchasing power of Americans.
2)
There are plenty of poor Norwegians, but they don't frequent the beaches of Southern Europe that much.
3)
Speculation is indeed an important part of many Norwegians daily life. Our public pension fund have lost between 10 and 15 billion dollars just since, hum - Monday this week. Our banks has lost a similar amount, - I suspect, but they havn't dared tell anyone yet. So, we will also have to discuss; 'who's gonna pay'. Glad we have a good'ol socialist government...
No wonder the Oslo taxi drivers are smiling...

Apropos Forbes. Forbes Magazine put some questions to Hank Paulson that shows the complexity and largess of this bail-out operation. Link here: http://www.forbes.com/home/2008/09/19/banking-bailout-paulson-biz-wall-cx_lm_0919questions.html

Several.
First of all it is a part of democracy to have this information available.
according to whom?

Veni, vidi, vici
it prevents banks & creditors to lend out money to people that don't have a realistic hope of ever paying the debt back....
what private business does is of no concern to me nor should the public offer private information to aid them with their profits.
The United States will never post such information because in free democracy (non-socialist) privacy is fundamental.

According to the European Social Democratical political movement. Possibly the largest political movement in the democratic world, having the majority of the votes in Europe with it's 366 million inhabitants. But then we stand out as a flock of idiots in today's turbulent world, I am sure.

Sir:
Socialism and the capitalism are different theories of democracy. What democracy means is representative government -- one person, one vote. Demcracy has nothing to do with disclosure of private information. On the other hand, totalitarian governments love to know everything about its people so they can be better controlled.

Hello Olsen,
I have to admit - I`ve become more and more intrigued by your political
and economic philosophies. Since you have the gang engaged in a meaningful debate, can you please publish (here,on this forum) your
financial particulars? Of course, only the information that you previously
stated was freely available on the net would be appropiate. In this way,
other members can gain insight to the Euopean Social Democratical movement. If this is inconvenient, can you link us to the url that discloses that information?
Regards and thanking you in advance,

I would love to.
I looked up all the sites of the Norwegian Social Democrat parties that I know, we got two, but all the info was on very local issues - and in Norwegian. One English (German, Russian, French etc.) is this one: http://www.wsws.org/
