M8 Pinhole

Thanks for this post, POV. I've heard from folks over on F295 that the EMS electron microscope apertures make the very best quality pinholes; they're extemely thin and virtually absolutely round, and can be purchased to specific diameters. Discriminating Leica pinhole shooters only use the very best pinhole apertures! ;)

Regarding the historic aspect of pinhole, they weren't used as much as you would assume in the 19th century, simply because emulsions of that day were too slow to work well with pinhole. And several famous, so-called "pinhole" photographs seen in books were actually using glass lenses stopped down to a very tiny (almost pinhole) size, to maximize depth of focus in box cameras absent a view screen for focusing.

Pinhole actually came into its own in the 1960s when artists such as Eric Renner and others rediscovered the optical technique worked well with modern photographic materials.
