M8 Price Increase October 1st ?? looks like it

I also have film Leicas and a 4000dpi scanner and have been scanning for quite a few years so I fairly well know what I'm doing. The results from the finest-grained, widest dynamic-range film (slow C-41) are very, very good. 100-speed E6 is a little sharper but it has a narrower dynamic range and scanning compounds it. I don't make huge prints or crop much, and I have a ton of film to use up, and my time isn't so limited these days, so I still shoot a fair bit of film, especially 120. But much as it pains me to admit it, in terms of resolution and detail, especially in the shadows, even multi-pass scans from 35mm can't touch the Canon 20D, let alone the M8. I wish I had the gumption to set up a wet darkroom and make optical prints with an enlarger.

Has anyone actually seen what the new U.S. price will be? If it is in this thread, I missed it. A 600 Euro increase translates into about a $822 dollar increase and a 600 Pound increase is about $1,200 dollars. The $4,995 price does not match the new European prices so something is off.

Price increase Oct. 1, 2007 to $5495.00.

Yeah, that means they're getting cheaper..
Travis L, can you confirm on the price?

My guy is telling me the M8 is going up in price, he's a friend and knows I won't be buying one anytime soon (hehe gotta get those investments rolling), so it's not like he's presure selling me.

Oh, yeah, that'd really go over big with everyone that bought an M8 in the last 8 months

That's what the others are doing in the camera business. Why shouldn't Leica? Because you have just bought an 'old' M8?

Could you please be more specific? Which $4500+ digital camera from another manufacturer was replaced with an upgraded model in less than a year after the original? (Hint: the Nikon D2XS was announced 14 months after the D2X and took approximately 3 months more to hit the streets).

Maybe Leica will follow the Rolex model. MSRP and MAP is a starting point (with dealer cost way below that) and individual selling prices are always negotiable... Perhaps this "increase" is Leica's "thanks" for the AD (authorized dealer) in having to deal with initial bugs/returns...

I just got my Leica (I am a Leica US dealer) price increase information today, as of Oct. 1 the M8's list price is $4615.00 USD.
Better check again. I think you just quoted your dealer net.

First off working for a Leica dealer, I would love to know what you think the margins are... they might not be as high as you think - even by Leica standards. I have not yet seen the Oct 1st price list, so I can not confirm the above post...

As far as negotiating... YMMV... B&H is at $4950.. never know them to negotiate...

I understand that dealers have a business to run. For the consumers, nothing new. Those who can will buy, and those who can't... won't. As with Rolexes, most pieces can be had for a little under MSRP from an authorized dealer, but then again there are models, due to scarcity, that are known to go for far higher than MSRP. That said, with the low stock of Leica lenses recently, I haven't heard of any Noctiluxes going for more than what the current MSRP is... or have they been?

This still doesn't answer my question about the earlier poster saying his store was going to be pricing at 46 which is cheaper then BHphoto even..

Suggesting to me that the prices are going down..

Say I wanted to sell a BNIB M8 for 4700 USD shipped, if the price goes up on OCT. 1st, would people be interested?

If the price stayed the same, would people STILL be interested?

I wanna know because I'm thinking about getting an M8, but I didn't want to get one untill I finish up this job in a few months, but I can get one on credit now, and if the prices go up, I will still sell it for what I paid for it. IF my job doesn't pay out what I expect it to... IF it does, then I keep the camera..

I know this is not the appropreate forum, but just send me a email if you think there would be interest.

Oh and yes again, I would like to know if the previous poster had a typo or not..

Correction! My post should have stated $4615 as DEALER COST not LIST PRICE.
Sorry about the typo!
You should delete this ASAP. It could get you in trouble and you're not doing yourself or your fellow dealers any favours.
