M8 release?

Can anyone comment on the M8 release? I just got a used M8 and the release is hard to describe, but requires a bit of pressure. Quite unlike the Epson R-D1, which had a very light release. Is this a characteristic of the M8, or do I have a defective release? It functions properly, but I'd have to think that the required pressure would induce vibration that would affect the image quality.

Any comments appreciated.

The M7 is similar in requiring extra force to fire the shutter. It's one reason I can't get used to the M7, and have sold mine in favor of an MP. Yes, I think it does jolt the camera body and affect the picture.

Actually M8 / M8.2, M9 has a three step release.

Everyone is right. And I think we're going to be getting a lot of these "What's wrong with my M8" threads as all sorts of new users purchase used ones.

Just found this thread with a google search after being surprised by the shutter release on my own "new" used M8! Glad it's normal. It is definitely not as smooth as my M2 or M7, but otherwise the camera's a dream so far.

the good news is that I've never accidentally tripped the shutter on my M8 while putting it in my bag. the bad news is that I chronically forget to NOT wind my M2 before putting it in the bag and therefore trip its shutter unintentionally on occasion. you do need to program a little bit of muscle memory into your trigger finger on the M8 to hit the detent just right to lock shutter speed if you're shooting in AE mode. sometimes I go too far.
