Broken LCD. Sent to Leica New Jersey

Unsatisfactory responses to telephone message and email; also, confusion over payment and when to return-ship after repair (I was out of country and didn't want it returned before I was back).

OTOH, my direct calls through the operator to repair personnel were very cordial and responsive. After discovering that the repair was being held up for credit card information (I had taken care of this before leaving the country), I received the M8 within a week.

INVOICE:
Replace monitor
Repair focus
Check and adjust for good working order

$356.23 USD

A damaged new camera and dealing with a cross-country repair is a nervewracking experience. Like taking a sick child to the hospital-----much concern if anyone is good enough or fast enough in effecting the cure. Overall, I think the work was competent and I was charged fairly.

BTW, I have NO IDEA of how I damaged the camera. Possibly unnoticed (?) pressure while it was in my camera bag and in a Luigi half case.

I got a new M8 and it only came with a 2 year warranty, nothing about Passport (unlike the M6 bodies I bought new in the 90's).

I've only had the camera since June or so. From what I can figure, "Passport" is no longer offered. Besides, Passport would have to be pretty "unconditional" to cover the kind of damage to the monitor. My claim that I took care at all times might not convince anyone.

I might make an insurance claim. I think it's covered and there's no deductable. However, the amount is right at that threshold where you have to wonder if it's not worth just eating the loss and saving my untarnished coverage. Got to be some flawed thinking involved here.
