Hi Guys a friend of mine had this terrible failure, the shutter on his m8 broke down.
Does anybody how much costs to repair or change the shutter?

While I don't know for sure (I no longer have an M8, but sorta wish I did, and when I did it worked without issue), from what I have seen posted here and elsewhere, Leica is usually very sympathetic to this claim.
I'd suggest he contacts Customer Service at Leica (in Germany I guess) and see what they say/suggest.
Only failures I have had have been with a nice Leica X1, bought used, and well out of warranty. Both were fixed at little or no cost to me.
Pay a bit more for them, but from what I have seen, the parent company is keen to make good. First port of call though Customer Service.

A bit under 500 to get a new shutter on M9 in NJ

A couple years ago it was just under $500 USD I think.
That's what I paid for my M8 to be serviced and then promptly sold it.

Thank you guys, i think i can recommend some action to my friend, instead of trying to fix it locally i´ll tell him to send it to Germany or another Leica representative.
