OK I haven't been following the discussion of "what's this button? what's that knob? etc.," Forgive me if this is well known. What is that circle on top of the camera above the VF? TIA.

That is the counter for the # of shots remaining...
I hope it will display the ISO speed as well.

Oh well...I'm hoping that a great many Leica users who cannot afford to have several bodies will flood the market with good used MP's and M7's and M6's and we who cannot afford, or don't want, an M8, can finally realize our dreams, our fantasies when we drift off to sleep thinking about bodies...not of beautiful women (or men) but of Leicas!
that's true! one trick of the salesman is to put the product in your hands. it's a well know ebay secret that posting pictures of items (cameras) in the hands can help increase sales. This is driving me nuts! I want one!

It's a beautiful camera. The quest for an MP begins, now.
Marc, thanks for the photos.

Why is it when I hear "soft porn" I always think "Red Shoe Diaries"; I never even saw a single one of those episodes. Go figure.

Notice that it says:" lens detection activated". That means it can be switched off!
And look at the circles on the camera. It has been compressed horizontally on resizing. That is why it looks high and narrow.

Hmm, this camera looks suspiciously like the one Jorge posted pictures of. Guess he was right. . . .

yeah, but you have to admit, better quality images would have helped.

Where'd my Bessa go?
Can get a better idea of its size from this video... this is a repost since it was getting lost in the other M8 thread.

Basically, after all the fuss, it looks like a nice, solid, practical camera for those of us who need to shoot digital and prefer to use an RF. Can't help thinking that unprotected LCD is going to pick up a lot of scratches and nose prints, though! If I suddenly had a spare $5000 and were able to buy one of these, I expect my first act would be to run to the auto-supply store and buy some "headlight protection film" to stick over it.

As a left-eyed shooter, I would agree, nose prints galore, but that's life. I have the same problem with the DMR. It is good to keep in mind that the LCD is just for review and information, not to look at the picture as a final product. Anyway, I think this is quite an accomplishment. If you compare this camera to its DSLR equivalents (not just the DMR and 1DsII), it is much, much smaller, especially if you include the lenses in the equation. At 1500 dollars more than the film version, I think the pricing is pretty good too. I know many will disagree, but if you compare it to the top of the line Canon and Nikon offerings, the pricing is in the same league. Yes, it may have a slight crop factor and a few less megapixels, but it also has a much smaller form factor and very different engineering obstacles to overcome. The DMR produces truly superb results, so if the M8 is able to equal or exceed the standard the DMR sets, I think there are going to be a number of happy Leica users. The higher ISO is promising as well. The DMR only offers ISO 1600 reluctantly (it is a custom function and called ISO push), so if the M8 offers ISO 2500 without any sort of hurdles, I would take that to mean it has better high ISO performance. That can only be a good thing. I have also heard that there are many M8's ready to go, so the initial supply problems of the DMR will probably not be repeated (thank heavens...I waited months for my DMR even though I was Tony Roses 2nd customer in line).
Anyway, I am very excited.

Good looking camera about what I expected. We will have to wait and see how friendly the user interface of the menus and buttons are but they can't be worse than the Canon 1DII series bodies which basically require three hands to do many functions,
Am I alone in being much less concerned about how the camera looks and more concerned about how the pictures it takes look?? That milestone which we should reach on Friday is really what I have been waiting for. I sincerely hope it justifies my selling the M7 and adding a bunch more hard earned after tax dollars to pre order one of these babies

It does seem shockingly small. Might make me sell a lot of film stuff. No, need to resist the LAS, I got three already, must be strong......

Check out the video in post #35, it's not any smaller than a M7.
