M8: the ultimate pictures (LCD!)

I can't believe this...everyone is drooling over this digicam! People talking about selling all their Leica M bodies to by this thing! Oh well. I've always wanted a Leica. Seems that I might find some previously impossible prices on M7s and M3s in coming months.

It looks great.

My IIIc just came back from getting serviced and I shot a roll with it today.
Love that camera. It's like a little jewel.

It's strange. We've a come a very long way since my IIIc left the factory in 1945, but sitting here looking at the M8 pictures, it looks like it would fit like an old glove.

Let`s do it :)

Do you know, the furore for the M8 wells up in me GAS...for the MP. It really does. Strange but true. To get one I will most probably have to cull my last SLR. Hmmmm...

LOL!! Dancing smilies. Excellent Jaap ;)

Ah, what to do, what do? My girlfriend will NEVER understand why I *need* an MP. It's good that you guys know why, and that proves beyond any reasonable doubt that I am rational. And mentally sane. And not in the slightest fetishistic. God, she *is* going to grill me.

I feel for you, Alkis, the same will happen to me for the M8...But you are perfectly sane about the MP :) I will NOT trade in my M6, nor will I sell off my stock of Kodachrome. I want it all ;)

Is there any definitive news on the blue dot? Is it a light sensor to calculate lens aperture?

How strange it would be if our guesses from all those months ago turned out to be true for once...

On another note, I got a payment through in dollars yesterday - i get it exchanged into sterling by a specialist company, and the rate seems to have tanked since my last payment in the fall. If Leica are holding firm to their dollar price it will cost 'em. and likewise, it might be worth Europeans looking at buying from America...

Why they didn't introduce white-balance detector into the finder then? Less chance for it to be blocked that way, no?

The Digilux2 had it seperate as well, despite having a electronic VF which would have made it even simpler to pull WB information. I suppose they want as wide an angle as possible for the incident light. Come to think of it, I read somewhere else that the WB sensor would be hidden behind the silver edge of the viewfinder. In that case - who knows what the blue spot is for... Maybe it is as banal as the LED for the self-timer. I noticed a number of German electronic products sporting blue LED's where they used to be red lately. I still find it unlikely that there would be an aperture estimating gizmo, although it would be technically possible. (I suggested it more than a year ago ;)) but I think the inexact nature of it will not appeal to the Heinzelmännchen in Solms.

It's a beautiful machine. Wish I had $5000. I guess I'll be sticking to my Nikon digital system for now... stashing the money I had for a film RF away until the CV/Zeiss digital comes out, hopefully slightly cheaper. :)

At 1500 dollars more than the film version, I think the pricing is pretty good too.

But that's only because Leica charges an arm n' leg for their film bodies to begin with. So it being $1500 more than the film body doesn't really tell us anything.

Did you notice the EV value below the shutter speed in the first picture of the back (with histogramm etc)?

I am fairly sure that it is the white-balance window.
You mean it's not an alien tracking device? Or a laser pointer for gallery presentations?

Yep, looks like it could be a WB aide sensor.

Yes, it tells us that the new components and cost of new internal design is about $1000-1500 more to the consumer.
