whatchatalkinabout, Jorge? 😉 All I'd have to worry about is putting nose oil all over the screen. But I've got spare LCD covers. People laugh at me when they see the "plastic" on the 20D and Rebel screens, until I explain to them that us left-eyed people are neglected in the right-eye-dominated camera-design world.

It's the same size as an M7, just a few mm thicker. Just like we've always been expecting.

i dont think leica charges an arm and a leg for their cameras, they are very finely made (have you seen the prices of swiss watches lately?). its the price of luxury, and a leica is a very practical luxury because it is something we as photographers will love and charish for a long time. i can only afford a bessa for now and even that seemed expensive at the time. hope leica will still be making film cameras for a long time, though i dont mind buying used.

I can't believe this...everyone is drooling over this digicam! People talking about selling all their Leica M bodies to by this thing! Oh well. I've always wanted a Leica. Seems that I might find some previously impossible prices on M7s and M3s in coming months.

Me too: although I would actually like to go digital, not for all work but to get with the 21st century, as I do not yet own any digital camera, I feel the first thing I'll do is hunt around for some good bargains on M series cameras that people are selling to buy the M8.

All that said folks, what will be of interest to me is how the thing handles the lenses. Will the sensor and all the stuff that unscrambles the mess that comes from them? (The clever bit in digital cameras is the processing algorythms that make some sense of what the sensors produce - remember these things were originally designed for thermal imaging and have been co-opted into their current role. As far as the sensors are concerned in an ideal world you would not want to start from here!)

Will that wonderful sparkle, that depth, almost 3d feel be captured? If so Leica are onto a winner. If the results are as flat and bland as most digital cameras, why bother?

It will also be interesting to see how the camera handles subtle tones. It will be interesting to see in what direction Leica have gone with those sorts of aspects. Many digital cameras make a terrible mess of skin tones and it requires some very carefully captured files and some superskilled retouchers to get the results one sees in fashion magazines. In the hands of your average wedding snapper the results are breathtakingly bad. That said the 39MP Hasselblad H2 has had some good things said about it as regards skin tones - however for the same price you could buy a lifetime's supply of film!

Can't wait for the reviews!

Seems to have a lot in common with the new Panasonic Lumix slr, including a metal blade shutter🙄
I won't be around to see it but, I can't see owners enthusing about it in the same way as an M2/3 in fifty years time.:angel:

Had a look at the new stuff on the leica homesite, this brings back memories of minolta/leica tie up in the 70's. Leica versions of Panasonic cameras simply rebadged. Will we see a Panasonic M8, just like se saw a Minolta CL. We all know where that debacle ended. The first 100% German digital camera!! Oh really, including the chips and the metal shutter, who ARE they kidding!!!
