M8 Vertical Line, Inquiry to repair cost and time

I had this issue. I heard all the ideas listed above from Pixel Fixer to automatic fixes in ACR to it requiring a sensor replacement. None of the software fixes worked. Called Leica NJ and they said send it in. They did not replace the sensor but they did fix the problem as well as doing a nice CLA. Cost was about $450 and took about 7 weeks. Don't expect to get much info about what they do to it as I asked the same questions and got non-answers. The guy who originally sold it to the guy I bought it from also called them to see what he could find out as he had been in the facility and worked with one of the techs. They told him they couldn't tell him anything since he didn't send it in. They're not real good about giving out info.

So you are confident that the problem won't happen again? That's what I'm wondering. I love my M8 and the photos it produces and don't feel like I need to upgrade to the M9, but if there's a chance to have the same issue, then I'm not so sure I should stick with it. Did they explain or provide any kind of guarantee on this front? I guess I'll find out soon enough since my camera went out in the mail last week.....

I wouldn't say that I was confident. It depends on whether the problem was there from the beginning or developed over time. I used to work in the semiconductor industry and I'd say if the problem was there when the sensor was made, it's less likely to happen again. On the other hand, if the hot pixels develop after the fact, then I don't have as much confidence. There is a warranty on the repair. I don't have the paperwork at hand but I believe it covers pretty much everything. If I had to get it fixed again, I think I would only do it if it was in warranty. I'm like you in that I don't feel the need to move to the M9. However, when M9 prices come down enough and depending on the state of the M8's and M8 support, I may reconsider.

I had this fixed under warranty at Solms. I had multiple stripes. The repair receipt showed cost of around 350 euros including cla. The whole process took little over a month including transport to Solms and back.
