M8 vs M8.2

Well, I've got my M8.2 and the first thing that I've noticed, using discreet mode, is how much less kick the shutter seems to have compared to my M8. Now, this may be due to a number of factors including fading memory, but the M8.2 shutter seems much quieter and softer than I remember with th M8. Whether or not this will translate to being able to hand hold at lower speeds reamins to be seen, but early indications are very promising.

i've had sharp images with my stock standard M8 down to 1/4 second. i did find that with the M8's longer shutter throw (compared to film M's I've had in the past) i had to be more careful with my shutter actuation and not "stab" the shutter button - which for some reason with the M8 I was want to do?

Well, someone at a NYC rangefinder forum meet-up used my M9 and made a photo at 1/2 second that was sharp... so obviously it is me. Also, I shake more vertical than horizontal.

Be careful not to confuse firmware upgrades for the M8 with the M8 upgrade program...two different things.

FW updates of course apply to all M8s, and that's where features such as discreet (not discrete) mode became available.

The upgrade program involves 3 basic changes, available separately or together. These are the change in frame lines to 2m (as in the M8.2), the change in shutter (which sacrifices the 1/8000 speed, as with the M8.2), and the sapphire screen (as on the M8.2).

The M8.2 still differs in some minor respects from a fully upgraded M8...the black dot on the black camera, black paint (M8.2) versus black chrome (M8), S mode, coverings, etc.
