M8 wedding

Well, isn't that up to the people getting married? Many people probably think it's the best money they've ever spent. Also seems strange reasoning about consumerism and so on when owning a Leica MP yourself. I think it's nice to see that people are requesting and paying for photos. If the day would come, when they don't, it sure would be a sad day.

Very,very nice indeed Riccis.I hope the clients were pleased, I especially liked the shot of the bride entering the church. Keep us posted on how the M8 stands up to the rough & tumble of wedding photography. It must be so much easier on your back not having to lug around a couple of DSLR`s and lenses.
 
Excellent photographs, some very sensual. I like the poses and the textures, some are very surreal. Great imagination.

I've been using the M8 in addition to my DSLRs for all of my weddings since I received the camera last year. I love using it and wish I could dump the DSLRs - I work with 3 cameras round my neck - M8 & 28mm, Fuji S2 & 10.5mm and another S2 with the 70-220 VR lens.

Just love dumping the SLRs when it gets dark and just working with the M8 and 35 1.7.

Out of interest, what does stop you "dumping the SLR's?". Is it the need to change lenses quickly?
I am only dabling in this, but suspect the tri elmar (older versions) would be pretty handy.

The Tri Elmar is nowhere near fast enough, the slowest lens I ever use is a 2.8, the Tri Elmar would be no use in the dark. Also, it would be really difficult justifying the expense on a second M8!
 
I just posted another entry on my blog (www.riccisvalladares.com/blog) from this weekend's wedding also using M8s only (see Paula and Michael's wedding)...

It was pretty interesting seeing the video guy and the DJ giving all the schedules to my second shooter (he uses Canon DSLRs) and totally ignoring me. Of course, I didn't care, but it's funny how they assumed I was not that relevant based on the size of my camera gear... who said that size doesn't matter :)

I've often thought about making my second shooter the 'first' shooter so that they get all the attention, leaving me to get on with the reportage that I love doing so much.

I'm always getting comments about the M8 - 'Great to see you're still using film', 'How do you take pictures with no flash with such an old camera', and 'I really like your camera case' (it's a modified RD-1 Luigi case).

I even had a fellow pro make the film comment at a recent wedding, so it's funny how people notice what equipment you're using. I used to know a guy who always took his gold plated Hasselblad to weddings, even though all of his pictures where from his DSLRs. The Hassleblad was there as a badge of professionalism, size does matter.

Hi Steve
The thing with the tri elmar (so im told) is that its really very good at f4. Also the M8 does pretty well at ISO 640. That aside, is it the zoom function of DSLR's that stops you dumping them?

Nice pics! Which lenses did you use for this wedding? the 35mm cron asph exclusively? I think I could sell all my other lenses and live happily with only that lens.
 
All the images except the flower closeup (shot with a 90/2) were done using the M8 and the 35 Cron ASPH...

I'm heading to do a wedding in Finland next weekend and will also bring my newly acquired 21 Elmarit ASPH and 50 lux ASPH.

Some are very nice, but some others could be improved. Shooting a wedding with a digital M is much easier then with a film M, though!
