My recently delivered M8 (firmware 1.09) is experiencing problems w/slow speeds & metering in low light (household incandescent & halogen).

E.g., w/the ISO set to 640 & the shutter speed set to A(uto), the meter reading in my living room @ f/1.4 = 1/30th sec., f/2 = 1/15th sec., & f/2.8 = 1/8th sec., which is all good. Continuing down to f/4 = 1/6th sec., still OK. The problem is that stopping down to f/5.6 also gives a reading of 1/6th sec. & stopping down further to f/8 provides a reading of 1/8th sec. & f/16 = 1/12th sec., the opposite of what should be happening. Test shots show that the camera uses the indicated shutter speeds (I get a black frame @ f/16), so this is not a display issue.

The problem occurs w/all of my M-mount lenses (none coded), when using manual exposure as well as auto, & @ all ISO's (the "floor" shutter speed simply changes, e.g., if I set the ISO to 2500 in the example above, the lowest shutter speed becomes 1/24th sec. rather than 1/6th). The problem also appears to be independent of any camera settings (white balance, compression, etc.).

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I was under the impression that the M8's meter was as sensitive as the M7 & MP. Any theories as to why this is happening or is this just a straight up metering problem (to be dealt w/under warranty presumably)?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Having the same issue with my camera...new firmware 1.102. How was this issue resolved? BTW, new M8 received Tuesday this week with the current firmware.

Thanks,
Ira
