M9 + 35mm Lux Asph Picture

I really like the M8's color characteristics - and for the last couple of years people have been raving about how 'film-like' the M8 color is. But now I've read a few people saying the color from the M9 is 'punchier' or 'better' (whatever that means).
I'm really not sure what to think about a lot of this - I'm considering the M9 too but so far none of the images I've downloaded (jpegs or DNGs) have impressed me.

PS: looking at the DNGs in Raw Developer again now - I'd actually say the M9 files simply look more digital to me than the M8 files... I'll probably have to eat those words at some time in the future when I buy the darn camera. 🙁

These are good points. I would not upgrade to the M9 based only on colors or tonal range. The M8 was indeed excellent and I don't feel (from the little I tested though) the M9 is way superior in these fields.
Main reason to upgrade would be high Iso improvement and ability to use fast wide angles which should improve low light performance substantially. As I said before, there a lot of little others things that add up.
But let's not be definitive on any points, a good opinion can come only after several week of shooting.

Are you talking about the M9 ? It was a demo unit at the Leica dealer. Mine will be here in two weeks if things go well ...

The Image has an almost CP slide effect to it.
I truly enjoy it but, it's hard to see the character of the M9 here. Or maybe this is the Character of the M9. The leaked Brochure seemed to have a similar but slightly different effect as well (maybe only a different color temp). Looking forward to your future images.

The M8 also had micro-lenses between lens and sensor surface. The M9 has just an additional IR-blocking filter (and a larger sensor size of course).

That's like trying to get Ferrari sound out of a Tesla - ersatz!

You are dependant on adding software and micro lenses between your excellent lens and the camera's sensor. It's a Mickey Mouse band-aid. My D2X Nikon doesn't need it - the G1 doesn't have it - the M6 has no need to think abot it.

We trade the IR filter for software and microlenses? Waz up?

The interface is the same as the M8 which I found quick, simple and straightforward. I am so glad they did not do major changes.
The biggest differences is now you see info about batteries and LCD by pressing the info button. The ISO button is also a nice addition though I feel there are too many choices to select from (ISO160,200,...) so you have to learn to go straight to the desired ISO with the wheel. No big deal.
As for the processing, I got the impression it was slower than on the M8, especially zooming at the maximum but I am not sure what compression and formats were used.

All digital cameras requires in-camera software/processing. There's nothing Mickey Mouse about it - it's the way these things work. Regarding your D2X, here's some interesting info from Nikon itself:

"In other words, the D2H and D2X benefited from a major innovation; they offered in-camera image processing that was as advanced as image processing with software."

I saw that there is ALREADY a firmware update on Leica's camera site...ehem...not a good sign.

Firmware is constantly updated by all manufacturers.
It has been posted that the firmware in the demo M9 cameras used yesterday was a beta version.
It's a digital camera mate. For film colors and inflexibility shoot film.
The M9 looks a champ.

What's with the funky bokeh in this photo. I've seen it in several photos from the M9 so far. Does this lens normally have this kind of bokeh?

Exactly that is what I saw also in one of the sample photos on dpreview page. It is like double image rather than blurry. I dont know the reason but it is disturbing to me. I dont know though it is related to M9 or not.

You should look at the other pictures of yanidel. It's the coulour style he uses most of the time. So you can't see from this picture which coulour the M9 produces.
