I loved my M-E, warts and all until I took it to SE Asia and the sensor disintegrated within months. Years later, I still shoot with the Epson R-D1x, which keeps chugging. Cheers, OtL

I'd guess that is the dreaded sensor cover glass corrosion. My M9 is beat but has a Leica replaced sensor and board. So I believe I am safe. Sorry about your loss.
The Leica arrogance (Wir sind besser als Sich) might have fed their awful response to sensor cover replacement. If they were anything other than just plain greedy the would have replaced every M9 and M-E sensor. Instead they took the low road. A disgraceful response and the same as VW's response to the VW Golf's crappy valve guides causing awful oil burning. For this alone I would never buy another VW and I always have reservations about Leica even though I own a few. Policies like this and their legendarily slow and poor customer camera repair record just make me unhappy. Thankfully there are a few folks who can fix the M bodies other than Leica.

Thank you Richard. This was taken around 10 years ago with my original M9…which I stupidly sold. I now have an M10, which I’m not thrilled with, and have recently added an M-E typ 220, which I much prefer. I strongly suspect that the M10’s days are numbered.Just the posture of the near fielder, and the others, could place this any time in the last 150 years almost. One for the wall.

Hello d_b, apologies for the slow reply, and thank you for commenting. This was shot 10 years ago and suspect it was a jpeg. I dont think my processing skills were very great at the time…hence the banding!Beautiful photo! I love the foggy atmosphere. But it seems like there is some visible banding in the sky. Was this process from a RAW file or a jpg?

Just wondering, why are you not thrilled with the M10? I've considered the M10 and M11 as possible upgrades to my M9, but budget and considerations of the M9's unique 'look' hold me back.Thank you Richard. In other news, here's a M9 photo from a couple of years ago, at a restaurant in Melbourne. For whatever reason, I had the M9 + Summicron 50 and Elmarit 28 asph with me, and the Panasonic G9 with Olympus 25mm f1.2. The Pana/Oly combination produced lovely images, but the M9 was just... a little something else.

From earlier this year with the old CZJ f/1.5 Sonnar. Note the quality of the color and the crispness of the image. This is a pretty sweet lens.

Hello Richard, I didn’t mean to suggest that the M10 isn’t an excellent camera, because it most certainly is (and it’s beautifully built), i just prefer the output from the M9 (M-E). I also prefer the ergonomics of the M9. It fits my hand nicely and I prefer the thumb wheel for making adjustments, and the limited menu.Just wondering, why are you not thrilled with the M10? That’s in the lane near Bathurst Station, isn’t it? It’s a nice piece. I hope it remains in good condition.

Yes it is. Ailthough I live nearby, I don’t think I’d walked there before. That’s in the lane near Bathurst Station, isn’t it? It’s a nice piece. I hope it remains in good condition.

I do prefer the output from the M8 over my current SL2. I only shoot color occasionally and convert to mono and features of modern cameras are desirable. But if I am a color photographer I would either go with film or buy up a few M8’s and M9s.

Excellent images. On your Flickr page you mentioned you drove to these vantage points. Did you have to do much hiking as well? As an old 'fella, it'd be nice to see this in person but a man has to know his limitations

Thanks! I share the same age related limitations. So my girlfriend and I would spend the day driving around the valley looking for photographic opportunities that were easily accessible from the main road. All three of these shots were made within about 50 feet of the car, right on, or just a few feet off, that main road that runs around the valley floor.Excellent images. Good luck. It's a beautiful place, full of photo opportunities in easily accessible areas. In fact we're going back this winter so I can get some snow and ice covered photos.

And a couple from Hong Kong in 2013.
Summicron 50 - the EXIF data says Nokton 35, but I didn't change the lens coding when I swapped lenses that time.

This was a little tricky as I was shooting in the MTR and didn't want to attract attention, so I prefocused, brought the camera to my eyes and quickly confirmed focus and shot. The guy seemed sufficiently engrossed with his phone that I was more confident that he wouldn't notice.
I really like how the light and people in the foreground created a natural frame around the subject.
