M9 battery OEM?

It looks like the real-deal to me and I remember going through same thing when I bought my used M8.2 a couple years ago followed by a new OEM battery. However, the one you are depicting looks like the older original version that came with my M8.2. The newer one, like the one that just came with my M9-P lacks the white lettering but both types have the 14464 part number.

That's a genuine battery. Looks like what came with my M8 though, not my M9.

The M9 is really finicky when it comes to low batteries. I've had instances where the camera looked like all was fine and when I got home none of the images were written to the card. This effect was duplicated but only with a dying battery.

The generic batteries are horrible. I have two from different brands. One doesn't work at all, the other holds a charge but the camera is constantly telling me the battery is low.

Cheers for that my other battery is the all black version but is does say for M8 no mention of M9. But the above battery when I think about it could be quite old my camera was only bought 15months ago but is a M9 not a P so the battery could be at least a couple of years old. Funny there was no warning about the battery needing replaced on the LCD screen but as soon as I changed to the other one all was back to normal. Maybe I should stop being so mean and just buy a couple of new ones.
I also updated the firmware because it mentions older batteries etc, I was still using 1.139 or something!

The new Firmware causes the battery warning indicator to come up earlier, so the camera has less leeway available when the battery is running low. You can go back to the old Firmware if it becomes a problem. And it may be that the battery needs to be 're-set', done by running it down completely then charging it again, and this restores the real level of charge in the 'Info' panel.

I did this to all my M batteries and capacity has been hugely better since. I try to run them till the camera quits all the time now. Briefly had an aftermarket battery- it came as an "extra" with my first M8 from one of those "online" retailers. Never worked for more than a half hour, no matter how many shots I took. Tossed it. Come to think of it the free SD card that came with the camera never worked with it either...

Has anyone had a good experience with a 3rd party battery for the M9? I was looking at a few on eBay for $15, but didn't know if they'd work. It seems crazy that a Leica battery is $120...

From what I've read about Li-ion batteries - yes, they benefit from occasional "reset" but no, they work better and longer if not run down every time one uses them. Different chemistry and different charge needs.
