When did I mention resale value? I am enjoying the camera, very much so. I was just wondering why my finish was falling off so fast.
.
Clumsy? But really its an unanswerable question if nobody knows what you do with it.
If you keep it in a pocket full of loose change and your house keys its one thing, or treat it as if its a black plastic camera that will stay black for ever, but its obviously a concern if you simply take it out its camera bag and make a photograph and the paint is falling off. I don't nanny mine, but the epoxy paint is so much harder wearing than the easy wear finish of an MP that I can't quite understand why your MP has proved to be so much more durable than your M9? It has to be a case of improper surface treatment or something in which case it needs to go back to Solms under warranty and it isn't a universal problem.

I am notoriously clumsy, although I have tried to be more careful with the M9 then anything else. But life is full of whoopsies. The camera lives in a padded bag, but spends a lot more time over my shoulder then anywhere else.
I guess I've just gotten way more balls to the wall then when I got my MP. (Ha Ha)
I'm afraid that more brassing will incur more "Oh, what a neat old camera" comments, who then demand an explanation, "oh wowee it is digital, oh how fantastically neat that is" when all I wan't to do is just take pictures.

I suppose it's one thing if you fret about your cellphone getting all scratched up, because you know you'll be replacing it soon enough and outside of an iPhone, doesn't have much resale value.
But an M9... Let's get serious for a moment. Even if you plan to be buried with it, it's still a substantial investment bordering on $7k. Think of buying a new car... You're out there washing it every weekend, waxing it. Of course you don't plan to turn around and sell it, but it's nice to have that "new car smell" for at least a little while...
Just throwing that out there. Me? I just use my cameras. I do take excellent care of them, but I do that with all my "stuff." Just how I was raised, I guess.
Highlight: You are? Bigger fool you.
I hate the "Duh, it's just a tool" mentality, because it normally comes from people who don't know how to treat tools with respect. But there's a big difference between possessing what you own, and being possessed by what you own.

Can't complain at all, though I do.

Please excuse my assumption. Usually there ar two kinds of Leica shooters. Those that want braising to enhance the authentic classic look of the camera, or those that monitor every fingerprint in fear of marks that will decrease the resale value of the camera.

Some tools don't treat you (one) with respect!

I'm afraid that braising the M9 would result in an explosion, unless you take the battery out; at best it would render all the electronics fubar.

The best camera is one that still works!
Imagine if your hundred grand plus M3 BMW started tastefully loosing paint around the edges!
You'd have it back at the dealers with someone's nose pressed up against it quick smart!

They should let Mercedes paint them!

I have a 2006 E320 CDI black that has been outside since new and the paint is still great (I live on Allentown PA). Why not contract Mercedes to paint the M9? He'll, why not throw in an M9 when you buy a new Benz.

When the M10 comes out, judging by Leica's pricing structure, they may throw in a free Benz with the camera!

I had a brand new Mazda 3 that started flaking it's white paint at about 10,000k's of normal use - and I look after my cars.
I noticed the paint on my mothers new 3 series BMW is at least 3-4 times thicker than that of the mazdas.
