From what I understand, it's not recommended since the lens will most certainly touch the shutter mechanism of your Leica M9.
I've had LTM J-12's interfere with my Canon RF's: pushed into the RF pickup of the camera.
I would not try one on my M8.

I've used a Jupiter-12 with my M8 and is OK. I don't know if the M9 is different.

I use mine on an M8 after checking the clearance at infinity. Works fine no danger.
Be aware there are several versions of the J-12, some fit, others don't.

Mine seems to clear the shutter fine. Getting sharp results with my 1959 red R version. Was a great lens on the RD-1 too.
