This M9 is black with the "Classic" Leica script engraved on top. This is BEAUTIFUL!

Now, what I would like to see is REAL CHROME with Leica and M9 engraved on the top plate like the classic M3 without the M9 on the front or the red dot. That would be way too cool if that were to be done!!!

I think the reason is that there is always some fool with more money and less sense than you think. And for Leica, it's money in the bank for them.

Ah, the name calling. I'm not interested in the camera, but to categorically label people fools with no sense, all because their values don't coincide with your own. Now that makes no sense. 😡

Why would they launch a 'limited edition' when they're struggling to meet demand as it is?

No business sense at this point whatsoever...
Stop and think for a moment.

Let's say you can make 10,000 cameras in a given time span.

You can sell all 10,000 at the standard price, or you can sell 1,000 of them for a handsome extra profit.

You can also give priority to the 1,000 people who order the more expensive camera, so the extra profit is up front.

I'm not saying the rumour is true: just that it would actually be very good business sense if it were.

Cheers,

R.

And?

First, I deliberately said 'in a given time', so there was no time scale involved.

Second, the fewer cameras you make, and the higher the proportion of your high-profit, urgent delivery 'specials', the stronger my argument becomes.

I therefore fail to see your point.

What I like is an á la carte offer - because I like the M8 viewfinder (35 mm is largest viewfinder, effectively), while the new M9 sports the M6/7 type 28 mm viewfinder angle. Even with a magnifying glass this is not remedied.
So I will wait patiently, and when á la carte becomes available, choose for the 0,85 Viewfinder magnification (The standard frame set for the 0.85x viewfinder magnification: includes the frame/frame pairs for 90mm, 35mm and 135mm, and 50 and 75mm.) and maybe add the top plate Leica engraving! I don't mind the M9 advertisement on the front though.

Dear Roger,

Your argument is excellent IMHO. Spoken like a true businessman -

Limited Editions are Unlimited Profits... so I assume they will set up the limit at such level, in which they could sell the maximun amount of them.
Therefore there would be no limit at all... since everybody who wants one and can pay for it, will have one!

I certainly find good cameras beautiful, like the MP... And engravings can be... well, not precisely beautiful, but a way for a company to show status around 1920... But desiring a 21st century digital camera with old engraving style is... not a photographic thing... It talks about a person's mind and spirit... I think it doesn't speak in favor of any photographer... Even Ken Rockwell is getting disappointed on the M9, and now clearly says that the M3 makes better images... Now, hit me... (But don't miss that special engraved edition in the meantime...)

If you feel better, here it is: "Engraved M9s are better and more beautiful M9s"...

Cheers,

Juan

The classic Leica script of the M3/M2/M4 etc should be standard anyway to my mind.

I don't care about the buisness, and I certainly wouldn't pay the extra bucks for such a cosmetic feature.

A person who has the money to buy something so expensive has already proven that he is no fool.
