M9-P 20 pieces; M3-P 20 pieces

Actually I kind of like the retro-look M3-P, though I think a more appropriate name would have been MP-3. And if these special editions had been paired with the 50/1.4 they would have looked better proportioned but I guess stuff like this is for the buyer who must have "the best" - as in "the most expensive" - whether or not a Noctilux is actually better for most purposes.

Done that already...

The usual run of sour grapes...

If I could afford one, I'd buy it and use it. Quite a few of those who can afford one will probably use them too. Yes, some will be bought by collectors. And?

The extra effort involved in making these 'specials' is so trivial that it certainly isn't the reason why there's a shortage of other Leicas. It does however give a nice little boost to both cash flow and promoting awareness that Leica is still in business (which is just as important in many cases).

Yes, I have got rid of 'collector' Leicas (such as my mint, boxed, etc., IIIg, or black paint M3) because I needed the money, but if I'd had the money, I'd probably have kept them.

Does this mean I'm "not a photographer", despite the fact that I've earned a fair chunk of my living from it for 30+ years? Or does it mean that (like most people) I can't afford all the cameras I'd like, but that (unlike some people) I don't pretend there's any moral superiority in being either poor or mean?

Cheers,

R.

So, the question is: how much more unaffordable and beyond my budget is the P than the plain jane M9? If I could afford one, I'd buy it. Though I'd probably hem and haw about black vs silver. Luckily, I don't expect to be facing such conundrum any time soon.

looks nice, but if it was my money I'd get the regular one. Anyway, I'm waiting for the M9 successor for better high ISO and that will be enough for me no matter what the subsequent models offer. I wonder if the M9P means the M10 or 9.2 is less than 12 months away????

Higher ISO?

If I could afford ANYTHING that expensive, I would buy one so I could use it NOW. Life is too damned short to wait for the next bigger, best, more expensive digital camera.:p
