M9 sensor discontinued

Thank You MaZo for the update

Sad, but the way of the World Presently... More Crap news everyday

Anyone who loves M9 cameras should have bought a refurbished one from Leica.
I tried to be practical, and I got an M10 instead. The M8 and M9 with CCD sensors are still doing well.

Well that sucks. My M9M had a sensor replacement recently, but my ME is on it's original sensor. Hope it lasts cause I got no desire for a new Leica M digital.

Best,
-Tim

As a film shooter I am non-plussed.

Anyone here surprised by this announcement?

Nah, nothing to be surprised about, just sad news for the Owners of those models

Though Huss, You do shoot digital
just not an M8, M9,M-E, M9M
Think You have an M240, Nikon Z something, Xpro3 and possibly other digi’s

I remember a number of years ago Leica discontinued their free sensor replacement for M9 cameras, and said they would only honor the M9 warranties for five years to the original purchasers. I bought one of the last new Leica ME models when they were discontinued in 2015. It turned five years old this summer. Coincidence, I don't think so.

Best,
-Tim

I remember the announcement of the M8 - „it won‘t be an ordinary digital camera, we are going to update the sensor, the body will get updated from time to time“.... blabla.

Guilty! I'm a camera Hussy!
You forgot to mention the Oly PenF, which outside Leica, is the most jewel-like thing.

I'm confident in the M240 - Leica finally figured out Digital Ms with that one from a reliability POV. And of course all the Japanese cameras just work.
I've never really used the Z to take pics, just to scan film.

But film has that, as the French would say, I do not know what...

Well, they did... it's all semantics...
;)

I think also Leica said they would be life-time cameras. Then again, they did not mention what species they were basing that life-time length on. I'm thinking somewhere between a fruit fly and a chihuahua.

The originally priced at $7995 USD body only.....joins the ranks of the disposable cameras..... really a sad day for the Leica brand.

If all digital Leica cameras up to M10 fail, I will revert to film cameras. It keeps life simpler.

I was searching online for some half cases, and I noticed the huge price differences between half cases for Leica models. It seems that older models are less "needy" of expensive leather half cases than say an M10.

Raid - if you do an eBay search for "Leica M10 case" in order of "Price + Shipping: lowest to highest" you'll get some surprising results before you scroll down far enough to see the $190 Luigi case.

But how long will it be before they discontinue the M10 sensor?

You did keep your M9, didn't you, Raid?

I have my M9, and I'm not happy about this.
