M9 Sensor Problems After Replacement

Don't Worry About Cosmic Rays

Don't Worry About Cosmic Rays

So, while visiting numerous photography forums over the years, I can't remember any other discussions about cosmic-ray damage except in RFF.

Ionizing radiation can damage sold-state electronics. Cosmic ray flux peaks at an altitude of ~ 15 KM (~ 50,000 ft). The flux is less at typical airline cruising altitudes (link). The flux for the northern and southern hemispheres is higher than at the equator. The flux peaks over the poles. The flux is not constant, it varies form day to day.

The more one flies at typical cruising altitudes, the higher the exposure to high-energy radiation.

The ionizing radiation that enters the atmosphere days doe to collisions with atmospheric nitrogen and oxygen. This is the primary protection mechanism for people and cameras.

  • Where are the reports of CDD/CMOS cosmic rays for other camera brands?
  • Where are the reports of cosmic-ray damage for smart phone cameras? (How many millions of these devices fly every year?)
  • I can't think of any reason for a Leica CCD sensor bed to be more vulnerable to cosmic ray damage than any other PIN photo-diode device.

What would Ockham speculate about the most likely cause of M9 sensor electronic issues?

And yet this thread exists!
;)

TV Reality shows are not useful to anyone except the producers and the "actors". Still, millions of people watch reality shows for some reason.

Our thread is a FUN thread!:D

Raid,

Fact is radiation is around us in trace amounts whether we like it or not. When I eat a banana the naturally occurring level of radioactive Potasium is so marginal it is not worth considering.

Cal

Oh boy. Cal, you changed how I will from now on enjoy or FEAR eating a banana!

Raid,

Radiation can taste good, and we need a good source of Potasium to maintain good health. Even if you get your necessary Postasium from other sources it will also have trace amounts of naturally occurring radioactive Potasium.

A friend's mom had some kind of memory loss due to some chemical imbalance due to a Potasium deficit. Oddly it eliminated/eraised history for her.

Know that one reason I'm a photographer is to fill the need to obsess over things. LOL.

And just think of all those photons and neutrinos; I've heard that photons cause light leaks or something like that.

Where can we be safe from them?
