M9 shot - critique me

Sorry, that is ridiculous. Shooting raw adds editing options, it does not take anything away. Matching the camera preset is the simplest thing in the world. Surpassing the rather ho-hum jpg quality the M8 and M9 produce is as well....

I'm not sure any of that relates to what I said. He will likely lose the colors if he runs it through a raw converter. The difference between his camera and another is those colors. For the most part I consider operating a raw converter a bunch of diddling around. To each their own, ah?

I think RAW and jpeg debates are mostly silly. Yes there's more rescuability of the raw file, but if you expose correctly and the range of EVs in the image is not great, then a jpeg is fine. I sometimes shoot raw and jpegs at the same time. I don't think the M9 jpegs are so bad, the colour ones. The black and white jpegs are sometimes ingenious, unmatchable with the raw file even with a lot of knowledge and time spent. Raw adherents seem to think that jpegs are useless and can't be adjusted at all. JPEG huggers are worried that switching to raw will somehow commit them to hours of post processing. I hardly touch many of my raw files.

(I first shot raw with the M9 a little over a year ago. I was petrified at the first import into Aperture. I was stunned that instead of 10001110011010110001 appearing in the editing pane, there was a nice colour photograph.)

I agree with Keith and would say that asking for a critique on one aspect might not be that useful. Is it not better to accept that your decision on colour is a mere part of the overall image you have posted. Its a whole thing.

I would say the colour is fine to my eye, as is the vignette, but I think the person needs pulling out and this is in part due to the vignette and also the lighting. Perhaps try lifting the persons a little and if it gets to look unnatural you could reduce the vignette a touch to help.

I find the motion blur a little distracting in this case, but thats personal.

I prefer your colour work to Sepiareverbs but would argue that something in the middle in terms of colour and vignette might be even better to my eye.
