Hi,

I'm looking at a locally advertised M9 in nice shape. The seller says the shutter was replaced by Leica around 7000 clicks and the new one has only around 500 photos taken.
I checked around for used M9s and in quite a few ads the shutter was replaced. This is getting me worried. Used M9s still go for around $3500.
What are the shutters of the M9s rated for? I don't expect Nikon D3 performance, but I sure would expect more then 7000.
What is your M9 shutter count?

Thanks!
Herb

I don't know what its rated for, but mine is at 44,000+ clicks and going strong..and I brought it used a year ago didn't really care I use want to shoot, I'm not worried about it when it goes if it goes it goes.. I'll figure it out at that point..

Why would you not expect it to perform like a D3? It certainly cost enough.

Ratings only reflect the number of actuations in a test. It doesn't necessarily mean it failed at 100000 or 250000. In the test it's not actuated until it breaks.

Leica??? Who knows. Honestly from the problems I and others have had I suspect they put some cheap components in it. In all honesty as a supposed pro camera it should be rated at a minimum of 250000 like nikon and canon pro level cameras.

Sure, but a Rolex won't keep time as well as a $10 Timex, Leica are not making cameras which can survive a beating, Nikon are, just different markets.

Leica used to when I started using them in 68. I didn't give my M9 a beating unless you consider taking it out of the box a beating. It was bad out of the box and it spent more time at Leica than it did in my bag.

I actually sold my Rolex because it never kept great time and I do own a $39 Timex that keeps great time. It's all about performance not brand name.
