M9 with Pentax-M 50mm 1.4

I have the 50mm F1.4 Super Tak in the original 8 element version and I also have the 7 element with the Thorium. I use both on Spotmatic and also my Nikon Z-6 with adapter. They work well. I am always carefully not to carry the 7 element with Thorium rear element in my pocket.....that rear element makes my Geiger counter sing...and very high...it is quite hot.

Are you getting spectacular looking images with the radioactive lens that you would not get without this lens?

I have the Thorium as I said above, and I have a 50mm f1.7 F Pentax lens (6 elements in 5 groups: so different than the Thorium). I can't see a difference between these two. Maybe someone has the non-Thorium f1.4 (and the Thorium) can jump in.

Your lens looks beautiful!
It is a Japanese Summilux.
Is your lens also a Pentax M?

Yup. The Pentax-M. I had the lens on a Pentax ME Super. I picked it up back when cameras were worth less than peanuts in the mid 00s. I loved it, but it was the only Pentax lens I had so I never used it. I had the inkling of converting it, but never really looked into doing it until Roland posted about it. He sent me the tube and the rest was a bit fiddly but easy.

I have a Pentax screwmount 50 f/1.4 around here somewhere but I haven't used it. I am not sure what the model is. I think it is the second version since it has yellow glass. One of these days I'll get it out and give it a whirl. It is perfectly mint though so I haven't yet.

I have another Pentax-M 50 1.4 around here too if anyone is interested in it to do a conversion. I need to clear out the cupboards. Too much stuff...

Your 50 1.4 may be the one with radioactive glass. I am pleased with the recent images that I have obtained with the 50 1.4 M. There is an overall quality in each image. Nothing is in excess and nothing is lacking. I have SMC M42 screwmount 28/3.5, 35/2, 50 1.4, 85 1.8 and maybe other lenses.

Fog? Not really! I had the AC on in the car, and stepping out exposed the lens to a blast of humidity.

I have copies of all the early Pentax 50/f1.4's (Super Tak 8 element, Super Tak 7 element (thorium), S-M-C Tak, SMC Tak, SMC Pentax and Pentax-M) and I really can't pick any difference, besides slight improvements in how they handle flare.

Here's most of them, plus some faster/slower variants...

This is a great collection of Pentax 50mm lenses! I don't have the radioactive one or the 8 element version. I tried to find a clean Super Takumar with 8 elements and at a reasonable cost, but then reason hit me, and I did not buy one. I would not know how to use it on the M8 or M9. Having an M10 or SL would be another issue.
