Hi,

I recently received 3 CDs of scanned images from Precision Camera for the 3 rolls of film I sent them. Normally, I put the CD they send me into the CD drive on my MacBook Pro, and upload them to my computer using Photo Mechanic. I recently replaced the CD drive with a brand new one as the one that came with the computer wasn't working very well.

I put the CD with the images on it into the CD drive, but I don't think it went in all the way and the Finder on my MacBook Pro does not recognize it. I've tried to eject the CD, so I can try putting it in again, but it won't eject. I've tried restarting my computer as this has worked in the past to eject a CD, but that didn't work either.

So the CD with all my images scanned by Precision Camera cannot be accessed.

Does anyone have any ideas so my MacBook Pro will recognize the CD in the drive and I can upload my images? I'd really like to share some of them with RFF.

Thanks.

Ellen

Hi Ellen,

have you tried to hold the mouse/trackpad button pressed while the Mac is rebooting? This should force him to eject the CD.

Another way to try to mount or eject the CD is the "Disk Utility" (Applications >> Utilities).

Best regards
Tom

Does the laptop have a tiny little hole by the CD drive? If so, you can push a uncurled paper clip in there to manually eject the drive.

Also, I'd consider using a pen or something to push the CD in a little more, and maybe it will engage with the drive.

This is one of the times in my life that I feel quite inadequate and even, OK I'll say it, somewhat stupid.

The problem has been solved, but not in the way I'd thought.

@ Tom - I tried your solutions and nothing worked. But it was very helpful learning about the Disk Utility in case I need it in the future.

@ jon - I tried your suggestion, but that didn't work either.

@ thegman - It was your suggestion as follows that solved the problem:

Does the laptop have a tiny little hole by the CD drive? If so, you can push a uncurled paper clip in there to manually eject the drive.

I lifted the computer to see if there was a tiny little hole by the CD drive. There was no tiny little hole. However, in the process of lifting the computer, I saw that the Precision Photo CD I'd thought was in the drive, was laying underneath the computer!! It must have fallen underneath the computer when I tried to put it in the drive. So I picked it up, put it in the drive and uploaded my images successfully to my computer. Problem solved!

Thanks all for your suggestions!

Ellen

PS I'll soon post some of the images here.

Had a good laugh about this!
Sort of thing that happens to me too.
Glad I'm not the only one afer all.
Nevertheless respect you for telling us all what happened.

This is not going to be much help. but this has happened to me. There is a way- I just can't remember. I called the local Apple specialist store - there are a few keys you push to eject CD/DVD incase this happens. The CD popped out. It has only happened once in the years I've had it. Call the Apple store or an independent Apple place, likely they'll know which keys to hold down.
Sorry, best I can do right now.

Thanks for sharing that! It gave me a big Labor Day Laugh. I need one, because I have been laboring on Labor Day. ;-(

By the way, I too could easily make the same mistake.
