I've just switched to a Macbook Pro with the Lion operating system and find that I can't load the software for my beloved Minolta-Dimage 5400 version I scanner. I don't want to go back to PC, but neither do I want to buy a new scanner (assuming it would be possible to find one that would do as good a job).

I'm working on two new books and have a bunch of slides to scan. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have the same problem. I think, though, that you can boot to an older OS if you install it on another drive or partition, and then still use the latest Dimage software.

Someone, please correct me if i'm wrong.

My Macbook is a 2009 model that I bought used from another photographer. He had recently installed Lion, but gave me the original 10.6 OS discs so I could install that if I chose to. Would I be able to run my original Minolta 5400 software on that OS?

Yes, 10.6 will run on the 2009 Mac, and it supports Rosetta.

Get an external drive or make a partition with 10.6 installed. Boot into that drive when you need to run Rosetta apps.

Very easy solution to problem. I have a Minolta 5400 II and I do exactly that.

Agreed with ILF,

I have a 20GB Snow Leopard partition together with Lion on my main HD (so no external drive), that I use exclusively with my Dimage-5400 v.1 and the Minolta software - Works like a charm.
