Anyone heard of this stuff or better got great results with it?
For sale cheap on the local auction site and the seller doesn't know nothing about photography 🙂 He has auctions for 100 and 400 asa films.

I can find developing info on

http://www.digitaltruth.com/devchart.php?Film=Maco&Developer=&mdc=Search

On the film container is ...

" PERFECT FOR JOURNALISTIC PURPOSES AND AS A ROBUST WORKING FILM FOR INDUSTRIAL AND POLICE APPLICATIONS OPTIMAL FOR USE IN SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS "

Sounds a little scary 🙂

Cheers,

Brian

Dear Brian,

Maco films come from a wide variety of sources, and at least once, the 'same' film has come from two different suppliers.

Most are good or very good, but it's always a gamble. The 'surveillance' line makes me suspect it's an extended red film, probably like Maco Cube, which was very good.

Cheers,

R.

Back in the days I used it I tried to find this out as well. If memory serves well the only hint I could find was a dealer in Austria stating that this was (or should be treated like?) HP5+.
I developed it in XTOL, didn't like the result and went on. The only reason for me to use it back then was that it was cheap.

Thanks guys, this auction is for 30 rolls so it might be a bit sad if the film was horrible/ bloody bargain if it's good
At least i know how to process it
🙂

As BGB knows from my PMs I bought this auction. My first time developing. So far I've done three rolls at box speed, and two rolls pushed to 1600ISO. I developed in Microphen. Developing is fun! And not hard or expensive -- of course, I read Microphen is pretty tolerant w.r.t. times and temps, but nevertheless actually getting recognisable images was a surprise for me!

Here's one I did at 400ISO. Not the best scan but I like the tones in the image, sometimes I seem to fluke the exposure:

And a shot from one of the rolls I pushed to 1600ISO, noticeable increase in grain, but not too bad compared to some shots I've seen of Rodinal doing ordinary unpushed 400 speed film:

I can't say whether or not Maco UP400+ is a good film or not as I obviously have no experience with B&W and developing in general, but I was pretty happy with my results for my first time developing.
