Made some good catches today...

I accidentally broke my own resolve not to buy any camera stuff before X-Mas: I only made really low bids for two auctions on Austrian Ebay, and won both...
a Werra Matic for less than 30 Euros, and a Yashica Lynx 5000 for a mere 11.50 Euros...

Has not arrived yet (mail is really slow right now - because of everybody sending X-Mas packages?)

I did a similar thing on Ebay today. Placed the minimum bid of $9.99 on a Agfa Solinette 35mm folder Friday. Auction closed this morning for the $9.99. Bidding seems to be slow.

I cleared my watch list this morning. I've got too much to do already, and I don't want to end up with a bunch of packages arriving while I'm out of town over the holidays. I'm sure a lot of others had the same thought.

I won a Yashica YL for $40. Considering I've never, ever seen one up for auction, I was sure I would get outbid. Now I have to explain to my wife why I bought another one of "those damn things".

Easy....Forward them to my house. I will take great care of them!

Looks like an interesting find, Walker. I expect those who don't ask, "what's that old thing?" will say, "is that a Rollei?" 🙂
Doug, I missed another Ikoflex - an earlier lever focus model - when my granddaughter called and I couldn't get my bid in quickly enough. That's OK though as my granddaughter is way more important than any camera. She's an

Jeroen,
the Konica S2 arrived today - seems to be fully working, but the viewfinder needs a thorough cleaning (X-Mas holidays project, I guess; won't have time for a test roll before, anyway).
This camera is about as big as my Yashica Electro 35 G, but has some nicer features: fully manual as well as auto aperture (with read-out for chosen aperture both in the viewfinder and on the camera top - NICE!), and a viewifder that does not only correct for parallax, but also for changing field-of-view. I'll have to check ho the lenses compare, but I'm expecting nothing than great results from a Hexanon (just like from the Yashinons).

Roman:

The S2 is shutter speed preferred auto, so the diaphragm must move after you push the release but before the shutter opens. All of my Konica rangefinders suffered from gummed up diaphragm blades which moved only slightly. A little denatured alcohol or Everclear will loosen them up. It's hard to tell initially because the diaphragm blades are behind the shutter.

Hmm, I don't have the right battery to check for that, and was planning to use it on fully manual w/ a handheld meter anyway, but thanks for the tip! The aperture blades do look really clean though, and move very easily when I adjust aperture manually.

Roman:

You don't need the battery to check this. Just set a small aperture setting, fire the shutter and then set a large aperture setting, slow shutter speed and open the back. When you fire the shutter while looking from the back, a gummed set of blades will retain a smaller opening.

If if it is slow, you can make a quick fix by accessing the aperture blades from the front of the lens with the shutter locked open.

The aperture already opens up when I turn the ring to the large aperture setting, so everything is OK. The aperture blades do look really clean, just like the rest of the camera, except for the viewfinder - do yu know, are there any pitfalls when taking off the top-cap to clean the RF assembly?

Roman

It's less trouble than most Japanese rangefinders of that time. Just us a rubber tool on the top of the wind lever.

-Paul

Roman, I just got a Konica Auto s2 and its easy to work on.
Follow those instructions. I used a needlenose pliers to unscrew
the advance lever screw but be careful with it. Take off the
protiective top to the rangefinder to clean it. There is a small
piece of gasket just above the viewfinder that may be crumbling
so watch for that. They have a real nice viewfinder on them.

BTW. I just did a quick shoot out between my Canonet GIII,
Konica S2 and my Rebel TI with 50mm F1.8 lens attached.'
These are all handheld pictures around my yard in the same
light, same subjects, same 1 roll of film, 8 exposures each.
Will let you know how they come out. My Rebel, GIII and
Sekonic meter read nearly the same, the A2 has an akaline
battery in it and I had to use a higher shutter speed than
the other cameras. Konica viewfinder was better than GIII.
