Magnesium Ribbon Flash Holder by Kodak

Not sure where to put this but it does seem to fit under Photo General Interest so here goes. I picked this up in a car boot sale for a pittance not long ago - obviously its been stored in less than perfect conditions but its complete, boxed and has its instructions. There is still even some Magnesium Ribbon in it. Whilst its obvious what it is, what I'd be interested to know is when it dates from? Also how would you actually use and trigger Mg ribbon?

Magnesium can be lit with a match or a lighter.

It was used as a lightsource for making contact prints and for taking photographs.

I remember lighting ribbon at school - so manual synchronisation I assume?. I didn't realise it was used as a light source for contact prints - this makes more sense of the instructions. Era?

It's listed in the Canadian Kodak catalog of 1914, though the artwork on the version show is somewhat different. It sold at the time for $0.20 CN.

Thanks. I love the 'Flashlight material cannot be sent by mail" statement. I note now that magnesium ribbon is still available and on ebay and can be sent via the post. Many other things of course that could be posted now cannot. How things shift and change.
