Hi RML,

I would like to know whatever Maizenber has written about adjusting/checking Kiev shutter speeds. Or by default, if he has not wrote anything about.

Thanks,
Ruben

For what it's worth  there are 40 pages of Kiev data in Maizenbergs book covering the Kiev 2 up to the Kiev 4 .

Paul

The Oldtimer Cameras book is in English and is an edition privately published by Maizenberg's family after his death, It is invaluable.

Paul, I literally have the book beside me: would it be more convenient for you if I scan it?

Cheers, Ian

Thanks for the offer Jocko but it's Ruben looking for information :)

Like yourself I have the oldtimecameras copy ,Though the English translation can be a bit vague it is as you say invaluable .

Paul - a misunderstanding: I realised that you offered to scan the pages for Ruben, but I wondered if you might be at work and if he needed them ASAP, in which case I could do it now :)

Cheers, Ian

Aaaaah all becomes clear :D sorry ,I'm fitting shelves at home and flitting between that and the computer so only hurriedly reading post's before the wife catches me :D

Ruben,
I got mine from this guy:http://www.photobooksonline.com./
Mine is a reprint on good paper, comb bound, and apparently authorized by Maizenberg's family. I paid $45 US or so three or four years ago. No shipping, though, the gentleman that owns the business golfs at one of the course in my home town and he was happy to drop off a copy at my work!
I just looked at his site again and didn't find the book listed but you might email him and ask about it.
I can't offer to scan anything for you as I don't own a scanner :(.
Best regards,
Rob

OK folks, thanks a lot but I am a rational man too. I am not asking to scan 40 pages with all about the kievs. I asked about adjusting and checking the Kiev shutter speeds. I assume there are a few lines and no more, if at all. A page that any one can read and tell me without even scanning. Just give a glance and tell me if he deals with the issue and at what extent.

Obviously that if there are 20 or ten pages, with highly technical data hard to transmit, about checking and adjusting the shutter speeds, then I am invited by myself to consider purchasing the book NOW.

Thank you and hope you can help,
Ruben

I have a copy of Maizenberg's book as well, it might be a copy of one of the originals. The book contains very usefull information, but misses some critical information about the repair of the Zorki cameras. For the Zorki cameras this book had been a real help for me.

I have recently made one Kiev 4 out of 2 broken Kievs. In Maizenbergs book, the part about the shutter contains some information about the delay mechanism (at the different speeds) and the winding mechanism , the curtains, etc. But I cant find any good information about adjusting the particular speeds or checking them.

There is a Zeiss Contax repair manual from Hove books with better information about the shutter and it speeds and how to check them. The images in this book are also better than the ones used in Maizenberg's.

I didn't use Maizenberg's book when repairing. I havent even read the part, quickly took a look at the pages. Maybe someone who has repaired Kiev with this book can give a good conclusion.

Greetings :)

Thank you very much for this useful info. Do you have the exact name of this Contax book ?

Cheers,
Ruben

Zeiss Contax Repair Manuel. Models II and III

This is indeed a very good repair manuel. Copyright is 1993 by Peter Tooke and Hove collectors Books. I used this quite a bit on the last Kiev I worked on. Have a good one....Ray
