Making the Ricoh GX200 work

The Ricoh GX200 with external ERF ( works exceptionally well) and the HA-2 adapter and 43 mm filter looks like a mini micro DSLR. Setting the ISO at auto ( 64-154 ISO only) and Image stabilization allows low light photography without using high ISO's (the GX200's weakness). With step zoom I essentially have a five lenses 24-28-35-50-72 setup. This rig is really light to the point where it is around my neck (with a neck strap, of course), pretty much all the time.
Photo examples coming soon. Oh did I mention a a real RAW buffer and 1:1 square format like medium format.

The whole thing is kind of cool, eh?

I have the GX100 and it is a very versatile little tool. The electronic viewfinder, contrary to what I'd heard on the web, is actually quite useful. It's very handy in bright sunlight, and tilts 90 degrees to help get shots from low angles. And, as you said, if you keep the iso set low, the IQ is very nice, too.

How do you like the GX200? I'm trying to decide between the GX200 and GRDII, I think I'm leaning towards the GX200 for the versatility in the lens, but wanted to hear some first hand opinions form you. Thanks!

can you post some B&W conversion shots from the GX200... i own and love the original GRD and have even considered buying another one as back up for the eventual day when my GRD dies on me...

I shoot 90% of shots on the GRD in B&W mode, ISO400 in jpeg format and love the results, I don't bother too much with RAW since I'm shooting in B&W mode most of the time.. i find the tonality pretty good for a P&S and the noise is dealt with quite well with the built in algorithm and to my eye and a few others to look more like 'grain' than most other P&S...

how have you found the GX200 in B&W mode???

The GX200 is a pretty cool camera indeed. Much faster than the GX100 and the user interface is created with photographers in mind.

I used the macro function for the first and last photograph. You can get as close as 1 centimeter.

Someone told me that with GX200 you can just keep it on Macro all the time. That way you can go from 1 cm to infinity.

You can, but the AF will be much slower. You can also set it to MF. Might be a bit faster.
