Maldives, What to take!!!

I just took my Mamiya 7 with 65mm & 80mm lenses in a Think Tank Retrospective 7 bag and carried it all over London, Paris, Normandy, and Rome for 2 weeks. Shot 25 rolls. Also had a Canon S95 digital compact on my belt. No problems at all, and I'll be 50 next month. Take it all, and dont forget an extra 4SR-44 battery for the Mamiya ($4.95 on Amazon, but no photo store seems to carry them when you're traveling...).

Best,

Kent

Hi,

For what it's worth I'll throw in my 2d worth; I thought Leitz got it right with the minimal M2 outfit of the 35mm for places and the 90mm for people. The later version, derived from that, was the Minolta CLE outfit with it's 28 and 90mm frame lines.

Given the light in that part of the world the f/4 version of the 90mm and the f/2.8 28mm would be more than adequate. So I'd build my travel outfit around those two lenses; a moderate wide angle and a modest 90mm. It makes life very simple and easy.

And, FWIW, I've cheap P&S's (bought second-hand for pennies) that span 28 to 85 or 90 and they are more than adequate for most family holidays. It's really a matter of technique not equipment. Simply avoiding camera shake can improve a lot of P&S's output dramatically...

Regards, David
