Mamiya 6 at a jazz festival

Hi everyone,

Here are some shots from the JazzAscona festival in southern Switzerland.

This year I shot both digital (Canon 20D) and film (Mamiya 6). Makes the bag a bit heavy! Loved the results from both, and was pleasantly surprised with the results from Delta 3200. Grain isn't that apparent when shot at ISO1600 and developed by the lab without any special instructions.

I used the 50mm f/4. Exposures ranged from f/8 1/60 to f/4 1/15

Great stuff! And who says f/4 makes Medium Format inappropriate for low light, when there's fast film available! Smooth... 🙂

Awesome series. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be #2. I'm really impressed with Delta 3200 @ 1600. I'll have to give that a try sometime. I've been using Kodak P3200 for a few experimental rolls, and the grain isn't near as smooth.

You said a lab processed this normally for Delta 3200. Do you know the chemicals they used? The lab I use generally used the Tmax developers on almost all b&w film and I get good results. However, on the D3200 it was grainier than yours. Fantastic eye!

delta 3200 @ 1600 or even 1000 developed in ddx is great, and also in ilfosol.
delta in 120 is like a photo secret that some figure out.

it was my film of choice when i had my mamiya 6.

According to the counter staff, they use Xtol. They're a pro lab, so they should know what they're talking about.

The negatives when previewed in Silverfast scanning software were very contrasty and dark and I had to adjust exposure and contrast before scanning. No adjustment in Photoshop except for slight sharpening.

Yup, xtol (diluted 1:2 or 1:3) is a nice combination with Delta 3200 (even in 35mm format).

hmmm, very nice photos, and I wonder why I've never got this tonality with telta3200. In 120. Maybe my light was more contrasty, or the development time too long...🙁

Pherdinand, light's got a lot to do with it no matter what high ISO film you're using. Shoot in nice soft light and you've got atmosphere, shoot in dark contrasty light and you get mud sometimes.

Lovely shots from the jazz fest. Like someone else said, the second and third shot are great and specially on 3200... almost no grain visible. I do like the toning that came out from it as well. Good contrast too!!
