Finished shooting a roll on my Mamiya 6 this afternoon. As I was winding on past the twelfth frame the winder jammed. Idiotically, I opened the back before realising that the film paper had not completely wound off the left hand spool - so I fear I've fogged my film. However, undoing the back of the camera reset the frame counter and apparently unblocked them jam somehow, as afterwards I was able to wind on properly and get my (probably fogged) film out as normal.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with a Mamiya 6 or 7?
I've heard about issues with the Mamiya 6 winding mechanism before but mine has been trouble free for the 3 years I've owned the camera: until today. The photo gods were not smiling on me today for sure. Earlier in the afternoon I'd managed to slip on a hilly trail plunging my little Canon S90, lens-first into the dirt - getting grit all round the lens.

I had simiral experience with my Mamiya 6MF when i was using outdated Tmax100. On 10th, 11th or 12th picture it would become too stiff to wind. So i would slightly open the back and push the film from the spool, while winding it. Never had problems with fogging! This happens if film is old, than paper and celluloid becomes very hard. Don't force your Mamiya, and everything will be fine
Once i had strange experience with fresh Portra 160VC 220. Outside it was too cold (-20C) and from 24 frames i got 6 or 7. Mechanism was winding, but did not cock the shutter, so i was losing frames.
Cheers.

You can get Leicas and Mamiyas to jam if the wind isn't completed all the way through.

Real Men Shoot Film.
The Mamiya 6 has a known defect in the wind mechanism that eventually dies. Mamiya won't fix them, no parts, but there are people rebuilding them with new parts they manufacture themselves.

I hope it was this and not the dreaded winding mechanism problem. The film I had in today has been sitting around for a long time - still in date but not stored well. I saw another thread on photo.net where some Mamiya users experienced exactly the same problem you described.
I'll have to put a few more rolls through it and see how they come out. Cheers for the replies.

Can you suggest someone who is doing these repairs?
