Mamiya 7 - 150mm lens issues, any thoughts?

I am looking at a lens that a friend is getting rid of. This is how he's described it and wondered about the barrell noise & I wondered if this is trouble brewing or if it's normal on a used lens.

"The focus ring makes a very silent sound when going out of infinity for about 1mm; this may be caused by the moving element when it releases from the velvety section of the interior. It is only audible when you put your ear next to the camera and no friction can be felt whatsoever; furthermore, it sounds the same every time and only happens at the said position, so it's most probably normal (?)"

I had the same thing when I purchased a M7 150mm lens off ebay, there was a kind of vibrating rubbing noise on focusing. I was quite worried about it - then I got the chromes back from the lab, no worries fantastic. Shortly after buying the 150 I was bending down taking a photograph with another lens attached and the 150 rolled out of my camera bag and hit the ground not from a great distance thankfully - it has not made the annoying sound since and still produces great results. Not that I recommend dropping it you understand! I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Lenses are everything on a camera. Wobbling, noises, oil, and other such anomalies forget it. These can be expensive repairs.

If I recall correctly, the 150mm for Mamiya 7 that my school has makes this same sound. Nothing to worry about. Just have fun shooting! I've made some great photographs with the lens. The biggest thing to watch out for is your rangefinder alignment, as the rangefinder baselength in this camera isn't quite up to Leica standards, and this lens tends to be rather demanding on focusing accuracy!
