Mamiya 7 bag advise needed

Hi All!

A few months i bought a Mamiya 7 with a 80 & 50mm lens. Suffice it to say that the lenses have truly lived up to their reputation.

I Am trying to find a good bag insert for this set up. I have found it does not really fit into my tinbuk2 bag insert. The camera is just too wide with the lens horizontal or vertical. Are there any good, durable, inserts that would work better with this beast? Ideally I want to use it in the backpack, so good padding is a must. Basically something i can load up and throw into a pack.

Hi SBC,

I use a Domke F3 backpack, and I find it fits everything in really snugly. I carry four lenses and it can even fit the 150mm attached to the camera which is handy. It is also a very comfortable backpack and doesn't call too much attention to itself.

I have the exact setup with the Mamiya 7, 80mm and 50mm which I stick in a Domke f-3x. I've found it to work very well, holds the extra film, light meter, notebook and other goodies that one needs to carry around.

As a note, I don't want you to have to go buy a whole new backpack, but I have had the Timbuk2 Espionage backpack for some time now and it easily fits both my Hasselblad and my Mamiya 7II with two lenses.

Other possible insert choices would be the ICUs from F-Stop Gear or the inserts from Gura-Gear (I have both of these as well (I have too many bags!) and they both work).

I use a normal backpack and cover the M7 with 80mm f4 with this neoprene cover:

I've used the Domke F-6, though it may be roomier than what you need. I used one in India where I had the Mamiya 7 with the 80mm and the 43mm, the external viewfinder and the panoramic adapter, but also an Olympus OM body and two lenses. And another on a trip to Bolivia, with the same Mamiya kit but also the 150mm, along with a Contax T3. So bigger than what you need, but really a fairly compact bag.

In a shoulder bag, my M7ii with 65mm attached plus the 80mm, fit in a Domke F-10, with plenty of space for filters and extra film.
