I have a lovely Mamiya 7 II but the battery compartment won't open--have tried a coin to twist it open but no budging. What could we do to open it? Thank you all so much!
This typically happens when the old battery has causes corrosion, and gotten into the threads.
At that point- working a little alcohol into the threads may held loosen the cap Worth a try. Do not use too much, risking it getting into the mechanism.
As an alternative-I would be tempted to try a little machine oil around the threads.

Just a little! Apply around the joint with end of a round toothpick? Vinegar can work on corrosion too, sometimes.
Not sure if naptha would do anything, but similar to alcohol it would eventually evaporate away (but can leave residue). Oil has the slight possibility of migrating somewhere you don't want it. Perhaps light machine oil: I'd reccomend very sparingly. Sonnar Brian has certainly dealt with some "sticky" repairs (as I've learned, reading his experiences here at RFF). If he reccomends alcohol, I'd do that.
