Hi, I recently dug up an old camera out a closet and have been learning how to work it.

It's a Mamiya 4B, rebranded as Mamiya Rank for the UK. It has a Mamiya Kominar lens, 1:2.8 f=40mm.

There just one thing I haven't been able find out by searching. What does the red B setting for shutter speed mean?

Any help would be great, thanks.

The B stands for bulb. It means the shutter will stay open as for as long as you hold the shutter release button. Looks like a nice little camera, especially if it's in full working order.
Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi and welcome to the forum.
The Rank Mamiya is a great little camera, usually they are in good working order which is quite amazing for 45+ year camera. You should run a film trough this one and let us see the results. The lens is quite sharp and produces some pleasing colors.
Happy shooting!

The Mamiya 4b was imported to England and rebranded as Rank Aldiss. The only Mamiya resemblance comes out of the lens which is branded "Sekor", not Mamiya Sekor as any other Mamiya.
They are really nice little cameras able to bring quite good results even being that old.
Usually they can be bought for less than USD 15 which means a lot of a camera for pennies.
It´s a bit limited in shutter speeds, but it has a CdS exposure meter, something that makes it usable today.
Enjoy it!
Cheers

The Rank Mamiya has a selenium cell with a Mamiya-Sekor 40mm f2.8 Seikosha Shutter B,4 - 250 made in Japan and is the 4b. Rank marketed a Cds variant under the Rank Aldis badge made in Korea with a 40mm Sekor f2.8 lens and Seiko B, 4 - 250 shutter. I have both.
