Can you comment on the pictorial quality of the Mamiya Sekor 250/5 for Mamiya Press., it's practicality, etc.
I own a Mamiya Standard 23 and do not know if it will focus reliably and there is no viewfinder mask for this lens. I currently own three lenses: a 65/6.3 that I happen to use the most in 6 X 9, a 90/3.5 which I don't happen to use as much despite the fact that it was cleaned recently but it's rear element retains the fungus damage and a 150/5.6 blue dot which I seldomly use, but I will put it to its paces very soon!
I believe the 250/5 is dubbed as a rarity on eBay, perhaps it will have very little use on my landscapes.
I'm shooting Rollei Retro 80's as ISO 32 with an orange (G), perhaps the 250 will Llow me to focus on very specific details of a scene. It could be a nice addition to my lenses if I can ascertain if it will work with my Standard 23 and what kind of application it can tackle!
What say you?

The 250/5 is a beast. But being Mamiya, if you get a good one, it's picture quality is fine. Did I mention it is big and heavy? But a great lens.
You might want to look for a 250/8. They are rather rare, but since they are f/8 instead of f/5, they are much smaller and lighter. They don't RF focus either, but scale focus. Well, you have to give up some things.

Thanks for the comment! It seems to be a rare lens indeed! Why would the F/8 not focus with the range finder?

The rangefinder base of the Press isn't that long. But then it would be harder to focus the f/5 than the f/8. Don't get that either unless it was just build for a price.

Spanik, sorry, I am a little confused by your answer, and that is probably my fault. You seem to be saying the f/5 won't focus on the Super Press either? My does on my Super Press. I have never seen the f/8 in person, but on ebay and writings on it. For whatever reason, it just wasn't build to be focused by any of the Mamiya Pres cameras by RF.

Thanks for the clarification! The 250/5 will focus and the 250/8 will not focus. I haven't seen the 250/5 in person. It comes with a black Universal.
The black Universal has no back. I wonder if that black Universal will accept a Polaroid back. I don't need neither, but makes me wonder. The price is at $300 for both items, (the 250/5 and the black Universal) are bundled together.
It puts me father away from my will of buying a Hasselblad. However, I'm not looking adamantly for the Hasselblad. There are quite a few in Costa Rica. I haven't seen them as I'm enjoying my Mamiya Standard 23.

I've read on Flickr that the 250/5 is not compatible with the bayonet of the earlier cameras and that it has a lever to block it's mounting on other than Universal or Super 23, not on Press or Standard cameras!
