Two men were arrested this week, accused of using a skateboard to assault a man and stealing his sunglasses after he tried to take a photo of one of the men's mohawk hairstyle, according to an arrest affidavit.
The man who was assaulted said he had been taking photos Monday on Sixth Street of "anything that was remotely interesting or unusual, including pedestrians," according to the affidavit.
When he photographed 23-year-old Johnathan Washburn's triple mohawk, Timothy Beard , 19, told him to delete the picture from his digital camera, according to the affidavit.
When the man refused, Beard took the man's sunglasses from his head, the affidavit said. When the man tried to get his sunglasses back, according to the document, Washburn hit him with a skateboard on the left side of his head.
Police found Washburn inside the Jackalope bar and Beard, who still had the sunglasses, across the street near the 400 block of East Sixth Street, the affidavit said.
Beard was charged with theft from a person, a state jail felony. Washburn was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison. They were both in Travis County Jail on Thursday.

hit him with a skateboard (...) Washburn was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon,
Corresponding to that a gun would have been classified as a weapon of mass destruction?

I would use my 2 lb Leica M3/Summarit combination to hit the punks right back and then take their photo for the police!

So what is the point of your posting the mugshots of the ALLEGED offenders? Thought i was gonna get a link to the original story. I`ve seen stuff like this here often and the justification is that many believe you can take a photo of anyone anytime. It is the publication that creates legal problems? just thinkin...but i could be wrong of course so clarification is welcome.

It wasn't a haircut. It was a hairstyle or hairdo. I thought it meant the guy took a photo inside of a salon or a barbershop.
In any case, there are a lot of maniacs out there. You never know which one is going to turn on you.

I have been known to shoot unusual hairstyles on the street. And on occasion I find myself in a situation in which someone whose picture I've taken "demands" I delete the picture. Or give them the film. I keep it friendly until they put their hands on me.
It's important to be aware of your surroundings when street shooting. And when confronted by an angry person/persons, to maintain your personal space. The skill of being able to deescalate is just as important as focusing and caturing the decisive moment.
On a personal note, I never delete an image or give up my film. Never.
They're "my" pictures and I think that doing so sets a dangerous precedent.
