Half Frame Goodness
however, the silver on my 45mm is chipping and turning black. this lens might change colour in the future on me!

Is it Patina???
Is it Patina???
Which would you rather have... fade on the lens barrel, or fade on your images?
Patina makes camera's look like they have been out of the bag and actually used.

the 45mm is a cheap (but great) plastic barreled lens whereas the 17 1.8 is a premium build.
But both are superb performers

Focus scale and DOF markings on that 17/1.8.. now that's nice! If anyone at Sony is paying attention; make some nex lenses with those scales markings too!

I doubt they will do it. They seem to have a modern minimalist design aesthetic.

hasn't it already been determined that the 17/1.8 is at best described as "meh" and overpriced?

Yes, well before it was available for people to use themselves it was panned.

And I love mine
It did cost me € 490,-- used, it is a superbly fast focusing lens, great metal finish, compact, great image quality, perfect 35mm equiv for your m43 camera.
it costs just as much as my C-Biogon 35/2.8 which provides a similar angle of view and DoF on my film bodies. Is the C-Biogon also meh and overpriced?

Right, and soon to be bundled as the "kit" lens with the new E-P5, or such is the latest rumour.
